We had a really fun time visiting the Sturlureykir Horsefarm during a 2-day tour of West Iceland via Arctic Adventures. The owner of the farm is very passionate about Icelandic Horses, and you learn a lot about these majestic creatures and get up close and personal with them, a “selfie” with them is a treat, such gentle horses. Coffee/hot cocoa afterwards with some fantastic homemade (in a geothermal oven) rye bread. Oh... and did I mention we were serenaded by Tarzan the rottweiler? Visit him now before he gets really big and decides to embark on a music career.

Me and my brother had an amazing time with Josefina! She was super spontaneous and friendly (I contacted her last minute via Facebook) and we rode for about 2 hours along the river. The horses were so lovely - I would have loved to take mine home ???? Along the trip we tölted multiple time (special pace of icelandic horses) and crossed the river which was fun and an experience! All in all the experience felt very authentic and familiar since Josefina is so friendly and the horses are so nice. Highly recommended both for beginners and a little more experienced riders! Thank you so much Josefina for the amazing time - it was definitely a highlight on my vacation :)

The tour far exceeded our expectations. From the beginning our guide ENNO was helpful, engaging and knowledgeable. It was such a great experience and my favorite of my time in Iceland. The water is beautiful and what you see is beyond belief. DIVE.IS are a fantastic company, with great guides, communication and easy to deal with. I’d definitely do it again and would recommend this tour highly.

Ideal for short-stay visitors, this scenic driving route through southwestern Iceland features excellent scenery and major sites.
The Golden Circle is a very popular driving route that takes you through Thingvellir National Park, where you can visit waterfalls, numerous fissures, and walk on land or dive in water in the rift between tectonic plates. After you drive through the park, you can continue on the Golden Circle drive to the Geysir Geothermal area, where you can walk around an area of active geysers and other geothermal features, and then drive a bit further to the huge Gullfoss Waterfall. There are numerous tour busses that do the Golden Circle. We drove it on our own on September 13, 2019 on our Ring Road drive around Iceland. Plan on a whole day for this drive. I have written separate, more detailed reviews for Thingvellir Nat Park, Geysir, and Gullfoss.

Peninsula of volcanic origin.
Worth the drive up the top, especially on sunny days, for great views of Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach and the sea stacks which are directly to the west of the promontory.

This small church is located alone, next to the ocean, on the open basalt flows of the Reykjanes Peninsula and the area around the church provides a scenic area of open, dark sky perfect for the viewing of the aurora borealis. We were fortunate enough to witness a display of epic beauty late on April 4 and continuing into the wee hours of the 5th in 2018. (Delta misdirected my luggage so the attached photos were made without the benefit of my missing tripod.) This small Lutheran church was originally established in the middle of nowhere along the southern coast of Iceland in the 12th century when a group of sailors trying to reach shore in a storm prayed for a safe return and promised that if they did survive they would build a church at the location of their landing. An angel then appeared and guided them through the surf and unseen reefs to safety. Keeping their word, they built Strandarkirkja for which many miracles have been attributed to and is one of the richest churches in Iceland as many donations arrive in the hopes one’s prayers will be heard.

In Fridheimar farm we create a pleasant Food Experience where lunch is enjoyed among the tomato plants. We also offer a Greenhouse visit where guests are informed how Icelanders are able to grow vegetables the whole year around with help from the nature. A Horse show is available where the history and gates of the Icelandic horse is introduced in a light and professional way in a nice environment. After the show our guests are welcome to the stable where they can meet the horses, take pictures and talk to the riders. This is a perfect entertainment for all age groups and specially people that are curios about family farm life in Iceland. Greenhouse visit and horse show need to be booked in advance
Email ahead of time to reserve your table for lunch! Still an excellent place to visit in the winter, was able to pet the Icelandic horses, easy to get to, good parking, excellent communication via email, delicious food
