Walk down past the entrance to the old town and suddenly you realise you're looking at the view you see on google maps. It's striking, and very different from any beach front in New Zealand. And it's free - if you can avoid the pushy street vendors.

It has now become a tradition to take a photo under the statue, open your arms and sing the song: Volare oooh ooohh. I recommended it

Most pleasant early and late....gets very crowded with visitors. Mostly Italian but other nationalities of course. Although busy the immediate restaurants receive mixed reviews from their captive audience. We ALWAYS avoid and search out a gem further from the centre. As soon as you go over the bridge normal Puglia resumes, but you need to be subdued, able to blend into the background and not order cappuccinos after midday!!

Very quiet place where you can see the small marina with all the old boat and the fischermen work. Near there there is a good restaurant called "Giselda" whit sea view.
