A jumping-off point for ferries to the Hebridean Islands, the port town of Oban offers a picturesque bayside setting. It's worth catching a later boat to take in the town's stately Victorian architecture, bounty of seafood restaurants, and good pubs.

A quick hike up to the tower rewards you with expansive views over the town and the nearest islands , very atmospheric at night when its all lit up ,this is an iconic structure thats now synanomous with Oban even though it was never finished. Free to enter and has a nice viewing platform with very informative board that tells you what hills, islands and villages you can see.

This site is closed for now. We’re working hard to gradually reopen the places you love while making sure the experience is safe for everyone. Visit the mighty stronghold of the ‘Kings of the Isles’ where Jacobite heroine Flora MacDonald was believed to have been held in prisoner. On an immense rock overlooking the Firth of Lorn near Oban stands the remains of one of the oldest stone castles in Scotland and the former stronghold of the MacDougalls. Built around 1220 by Duncan MacDougall, the son of Earl Somerled, known also as the ‘King of the Isles’, Dunstaffnage Castle was built at the height of the battle between Scotland and Norway for control of the Hebrides and was even once besieged by Robert the Bruce during the Wars of Independence.
This was an absolutely fantastic experience. Whether you have links Scottish heritage (Sumerled, Dougall, Donald, McDougall or Bruce) this is a truly fantastic place for a day out. The tour guide is an absolutely entertaining legend and I will definitely come again.

Can't thank Gavin enough for his excellent customer service, I visited the shop a few years ago after my mother purchased products from Purdies of Argyll and now I use the online shop to purchase gifts for her, the products are amazing and your spoilt for choice when you go into the shop, well worth a visit. You won't be disappointed. If your looking for a gift for yourself or someone else the product and the packaging will certainly impress.

I went to Iona to see the place where Columba had the monks create the beautiful masterpiece The Book of Kells. we were staying in Oban so the next day I walked into this church and there I discovered more history involving Columba. I am first generation American and all of my heritage is from the UK and Ireland so the appeal to learn more about my ancestors brings me to this part of the world often. I love to go inside and imagine what life was like throughout the centuries in these historical buildings...
