The Northern Cape (Afrikaans: Noord-Kaap; Tswana: Kapa Bokone) is the largest and most sparsely populated province of South Africa. It was created in 1994 when the Cape Province was split up. Its capital is Kimberley. It includes the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park, part of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, an international park shared with Botswana. It also includes the Augrabies Falls and the diamond mining regions in Kimberley and Alexander Bay. The Namaqualand region in the west is famous for its Namaqualand daisies. The southern towns of De Aar and Colesberg, in the Great Karoo, are major transport nodes between Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. In the northeast, Kuruman is known as a mission station and also for its artesian spring, the Eye of Kuruman. The Orange River flows through the province, forming the borders with the Free State in the southeast and with Namibia to the northwest. The river is also used to irrigate the many vineyards in the arid region near Upington.

Had just planned a quick lunch stop on our way through. As we walked in we were met by Ricardo who offered to give us a tour of the Art Deco theatre and its history. He is exceptionally knowledgeable and had so much to tell us we could have spent the whole afternoon with him on the history of the town. We will definitely be back to explore this lovely little town.

A True Experience. Although I travel quite a bit for work and I have seen a big part of our beautiful world, I have to say that Blesfontein took my breath away. It reminded me of a country like non other. Nestled in a valley of the most majestic mountains in Tankwa Karoo, lies this little gem! A place full of peace. A place where you can sit back and truly forget all about the madness of city life. If you are thinking of taking that long overdue road trip, make sure to add Blesfontein into your plans. You will not regret it...... In the town of Sutherland, as you pass towards Blesfontein. You will find the Sutherland Planetarium where you can view the most amazing 3D space show. It opens up your eyes to the beauty in and around the world. So, before you drive to Blesfontein make sure to hop on in to the Planetarium first, then stop over to the Total garage for a fill up as the road up the mountain is a steep and long one. Make sure to get there before sunset, it is the most amazing picture up that mountain!

From on top of Magersfontein Hill you can see the whole battlefield and then drive down and see the various monuments. The video clip has you with the Boers inside their trenches with the British walking into the ambush.

Most worthwhile to travel a little further across the plains to experience this beautiful pass and the wonders of Nieuwoudtville at the top.

Small town with friendly people that will great you were ever you go. Not much to do but the ship wreck of Aristea tells his own story. The white road stretches for kilometers in front of you and it seems that the road will never end. You can drive with a normal car but suggest that you rather do this wit a 4x4.. and somewhere on this lonley road stands a donkey also alone.

Situated on a roundabout, watch out for the cars if you want to get a little closer. A pity to see some graffiti on one of the walls, but an interesting memorial to those killed during the siege of Kimberley in the Second Anglo-Boer war.

This great Church is built in the Center of Sutherland. The church is a rich in local history. Well worth a visit.
