The Mayaguez main square has a statue of Columbus.
Great place to hang out during weekends and festivals. I was there during an after new year festival with lots of free music and food vendors. The plaza has a lots of souvenir shops as well, and generally a pleasant place to spend a weekend.

A remarkable structure in Mayaguez.
The Mayaguez Customhouse is an impressive one-story building in a fine formal Beaux-Arts style, with a full Tuscan portico across both the front and back of the temple-like structure. The design of the building was under the direction of the noted Puerto Rican architect, Rafael Carmoega, and built in 1924. It is the first Customhouse constructed by the United States in Puerto Rico.
The oldest presbyterian church in Puerto Rico and a national historic monument.
Monument to General Juan Rius Rivera. The impressive equestrian sculpture of the military man with a machete held high was made by the Puerto Rican artist, Salvador Rivera Cardona, of the company Julissa Casting Inc. of Dorado. Rius Rivera was born in the Rio Canas Abajo neighborhood of Mayaguez. The monument is located in a square that constitutes a new space for Mayaguezans and visitors.
