The museums of Lisbon celebrate the rich history and culture of this Portuguese capital city. The Maritime Museum is perfect for kids (and grown-ups!) who adore all things nautical, while the Casa-Museu Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves is a hidden gem of colorful artwork. To fully appreciate the city’s dramatic stone architecture you can take a guided walking tour, or customize your own tour, making sure to visit the Padrao dos Descobrimentos, the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, and the UNESCO World Heritage site the Torre de Belem.

It looks fantastic outside, but it makes a really big impression when you enter it. Basilica da Estrela is one of the most beautiful and impressive churches in Lisbon. It is huge with very impressive baroque and neoclassical architecture. The church has a giant dome, the bells of the two bell towers ring in a charming way, and paintings by Pompeu Botoni and Pedro Alexandrino emphasize the baroque elements of the interior. A bit out of the way from the center, but is a must-see in Lisbon. It is also a stop for tram 28 which is also a must when visiting the city. Opposite is the most beautiful garden in Lisbon, my favorite.
