Yogoda Satsanga Society of India - Ranchi Ashram

Paramahansa Yogananda (author of the spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi) founded Yogoda Satsanga Society of India in 1917. It was here, in Ranchi, that Paramahansa Yogananda began his life's work of making the teachings of Kriya Yoga universally available, with the founding of an ashram and a "How-to-Live" school for boys. All are welcome to come and experience inner and outer peace amidst the serene Ashram environs, and to discover the Raja Yoga teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda. You are also welcome to attend the Sunday satsanga and daily meditations at our ashram. Paramahansa Yogananda's Room: The room is open to all for private meditation throughout the day. Litchi Vedi: It was under the shady canopy of this large litchi tree that the great Guru frequently held outdoor classes and satsangas for the boys who attended the school founded by him. Smriti Mandir: It was here that Paramahansaji had his vision of going to the West (as described in Autobiography of a Yogi)

Not for the weak hearted. It is a primary place for worship of Jains as 20 tirthankars attained Nirvana from this place. If one wants to cover all the toonks then they have to start early at 3.30 am. At the taleti one has to pray at bhomiya ji temple and start the journey. The total journey is of 28 kms approx. 9 kms climbing up to Gautam swami toonk and then 10 kms covering all other toonks and 9 kms walking down. The toughest one is chandra prabhu toonk and to go there one has to reach there early between 9 am to 12 noon. Because other wise one cannot complete all the toonks. So start with Gautam swami cover Chandra Prabhu toonk reach jal mandir and go to parshvanath toonk. Enroute there are more then 25-30 toonks. Of one cannot walk on own then doli is available. Squat style doli which is carried by 2 people or chair style doli which is carried by 4 people are available. Charges for doli ranges from 4000 to 8000 depending on the weight of the pilgrim. Lots of stores selling biscuits, chips, cold drinks, lemon water, sugar cane juice, tea, coffee is available at regular intervals.
