Rising up as an indomitable peak at the gateway between Spain and the African coast, Gibraltar is a unique destination with a life that goes beyond its surface. The monolithic Rock of Gibraltar entices tourists with its lush greenery and the friendly Barbary Macaques ubiquitous to the area. Beneath its looming exterior lay the Galleries, a veritable labyrinth of underground passageways running through the Rock. Above ground there is also plentiful tax-free shopping, as well as numerous beaches.

Booked the taxi tour with Chris who was was great, he was very informative, knowledgeable, friendly and had a good sense of humour. Views were amazing and it was fab to see all the monkeys.

Took the Cable Car to the top of the Rock and was met by a family of apes as soon as I stepped off. The apes are very friendly but some people need to read the rules regarding feeding and should not be surprised when a troop takes great interest in them! This is a great way to spend a day up on the Rock as the Cable Car ticket price incorporates additional visits to the many attractions.

The Garrison Library is an amazing and delightful survival in an atmospheric colonial building beautifully preserved and presented. But wait! There's more - it is also a perfectly functional and functioning research library, full of treasures, which are open to consult and visitors are assisted by the friendly and helpful staff. I was able to spend a productive and enjoyable several hours there and it was the highlight of my two days in Gibraltar. Visit, even if only to admire one of the remarkable relics of Britain's colonial past.

Though this walk is not fit for the out of shape, the Mediterranean Steps promise wondrous views to reward hikers who complete the climb.
Don't kid yourself that this is going to be a nice stroll! Walking up is for youngsters not retired people like me ( although I'm fit and go to the gym regularly), walking down is bad enough so beware. The path is irregular with loose stones, rocks as steps in places and wobbly rope hand rails in the most dogey places. If you are determined you want to walk it I suggest that you walk down it rather than up it as the view is the same. The entire route could be described as a big J as you land up walking up hill at either end with the steepest steps up the long climb to O'Haras's battery. If you just want to enjoy the view then just go straight to O'Haras's battery as that is the highest point on the rock and forget about the steps, if you decide to walk it take water and make sure you have good stout footwear on as well as making sure you have a mobile phone on you incase you twist your ankle or have something more serious happen to you. Last word on it is walking up the steps is a macho thing not a sensible thing - you've been warned!

Shore side entertainment for both Marina Bay and Ocean Village marinas is varied and colourful from a choice of two Casinos to popular nightsclub Dusk, as well as a full spectrum of restaurant fare ranging from Italian to Indian, plus well loved brands like Wagamama and Pizza Express. The world's first five star yacht hotel, Sunborn Gibraltar, is berthed in Ocean Village to serve a discerning clientele and brings a striking centrepiece to our thriving, picturesque marina community. Centrally located only a short walk from the Gibraltar Cruise Terminal, five minutes from Casemates Square on Main Street and ten minutes from the Spanish border, Ocean Village is easily accessible on foot for all. We hope you have a wonderful visit!
A lot of restaurants and two casinos [run by the same company] Brunos near the Sunborn hotel have a long happy hour early evening and full of happy people. Ocean Village is a short walk from most of the hotels in Gibraltar so do not get a taxi.

Beautiful church in its own right with heaps of history. As a regimental church it has a lot of history. Good information available to inform our visit. Dated from 1460 there has been a church here since shortly after the Spanish arrived. Lots of changes and additions since then and we enjoyed reading the plaques and commemorations. Clearly a very special place to the regiment and people of Gibraltar situated beside the Governors house. Look for the flags and pennants hanging in the chancel, these could tell a few tales I'm sure. A very peaceful place and worth 30 or 40 minutes of anyone's time.

I was a bit scared to walk on this - a shame really as the views are great. It wobbles slightly which seems to make it worse. Ridiculous really as it is safe and well maintained.

Aka the Apes Den where the macaques are fed. Incredible views from here of Western side of Gibraltar, Spain and Morocco in the distance. Amusing to watch the monkeys play chase and nearly fall off the railings, amazing balancing skills and grip. Taxi drivers stop here as part of the very popular rock tours based at Casements Square. The first time we visited we walked past without stopping as no 'Apes Den' signs, no apes and no taxis at the time. So the next time we took a guided taxi tour. I was very relieved to see that the fruit is left under shade for the monkeys.

Highest point you can get to by tour van and you can see Africa and Spain. Views were incredible! There was also a monkey feeding station.
