It is a temple of learning for study of Tibetian Buddhism for Leh people & monks, perched on a hilltop with awesome views overlooking Dirang valley. Thupsung Dhagye Ling , name was given by Dalai Lama to this monastery. Photography is allowed even inside main temple. Best time to view beauty of this place is during sunrise , when the bright & vibrant colours of monastery gives you a very positive vibrations. A guest house is attached to monastery with small shop & canteen. The rooms are spacious & comfortable with required amenities. We stayed here for a day to enjoy beauty of this place. Awesome place for stay with great ambiance.

This is much more than a usual monastery visit as this is a living, working miniature town within a town. The main hall can be visited on two levels and on a sunny day has enough light inside for good photography. The view of the town and snow-topped mountains is spectacular from here.

Tawang War Memorial is a big 40-foot structure overlooking the Tawang-Chu Valley. The great Tawang War Memorial was constructed in commemoration of the sacrifices of great Indian Army soldiers who laid their lives to protect the nation during the 1962 Sino-Indian war. The visitors can spot the names of the brave soldiers carved on granite plates and this memorial was also visited by Dalai Lama in 1997. The memorial is dedicated to 2420 brave soldiers who gave up their lives in the war at Kameng sector. Now, Tawang War Memorial is well maintained by Indian Army, and it is a major tourist destination in Arunachal Pradesh. The memorial of Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat is another major attraction here, who won the Mahavir Chakra as Posthumous Award.

I was blessed to have had the opportunity to celebrate my most auspicious day of birth amongst the chanting of lamas in their prayer hall under the Buddha’s glorious blessed feet. The Monastery celebrates it’s annual Mask Dance festival, and the colour of demons with dramatic musical background score – is once in a lifetime experience, not to be missed.
