Yorkshire (/ˈjɔːrkʃər, -ʃɪər/; abbreviated Yorks), formally known as the County of York, is a historic county of Northern England and the largest in the United Kingdom. Due to its great size in comparison to other English counties, functions have been undertaken over time by its subdivisions, which have also been subject to periodic reform. Throughout these changes, Yorkshire has continued to be recognised as a geographical territory and cultural region. The name is familiar and well understood across the United Kingdom and is in common use in the media and the military, and also features in the titles of current areas of civil administration such as North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire.

Showcasing the work of leading wildlife artist Robert E Fuller, this gallery is a must for anyone who loves the countryside. On show are detailed paintings, limited edition prints and photographs of wildlife from around the world. Informative films and live nest cameras relaying footage from cameras hidden in animal nests in the surrounding countryside are also available to watch. Robert is recognised as a leading authority on wildlife and his TV animal documentaries have been broadcast internationally. He spends months in the field watching and photographing wildlife and this depth of understanding makes his work sing out. Original oil paintings and bronze sculptures of wildlife all come to life through his inimitable, realistic style.
Wonderful relaxing visit after a local walk to see the beautiful animals and birds on nest cam and paintings.

A small volunteer led and organised village museum that tells the story of Darfield's long industrial & social history. Housed in a restored 1750 Yeoman's residence, the museum opened in the year 2000 and has a large variety of displays illustrating the key factors of Darfield. The museum displays both domestic memorabilia, artefacts of local significance and much more!

Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) is the UK’s leading outdoor art gallery and an international centre for modern and contemporary sculpture. It is an independent charitable trust and registered museum situated in the 18th-century Bretton Hall estate in West Yorkshire. Founded in 1977 by Executive Director Peter Murray, YSP was the first sculpture park in the UK, and is the largest of its kind in Europe, providing the only place in Europe to see Barbara Hepworth’s 'The Family of Man' in its entirety alongside a significant collection of sculpture, including bronzes by Henry Moore and site-specific works by Andy Goldsworthy, David Nash and James Turrell. YSP mounts a world-class, year-round temporary exhibitions programme including some of the world’s leading artists across six indoor galleries and 500 acres of open air. YSP also offers an outstanding learning and family programme, award-winning shops and restaurants, a varied events programme, and a beautiful setting to enjoy nature.
We find this a superb destination- easily accessible, good walks, interesting sculptures and other artistic installations, quality shop and good food. In particular we have always found the other visitors courteous and considerate- probably because the visitor base is family orientated. Highly recommended.

Having lived within 8 miles of Cartwright Hall all my life (50 years plus) this was unbelievably my first visit and what a treat. The Hall and grounds are magnificent and the exhibits (as an art lover) were quite wonderful. So many noted and popular original pieces (huge Hockney display, Lowry, Lichtenstein) to name a few. And incredibly it was free to enter!!! Multiculturalism is also celebrated and offered a great insight into Bradford's history relating to this. Although in the depths of Autumn when I visited, I could appreciate how amazing it will be to go again in the Spring or Summer to get the full benefits of the quite spectacular landscaped gardens and Lake. I have now run out of superlatives so will let you decide yourselves.

Worth visiting on three counts, to see inside the former Old Town Hall building, to see a fascinating collection of paintings, posters, photographs and drawings related to the area and, when ww visited, to see a temporary exhibition of the work of Yorkshire artist Ian Mitchell, which I loved. The building was built as the Old Town Hall in 1812 and looks quite modest from the outside. Inside, the main hall has had a number of uses through its life including as a theatre where performers included Lily Langtry and Oscar Wilde. Today the art displays are arranged so that you can still appreciate the architecture of the Hall. A friendly welcome is given on arrival and there is a good shop. Plus, the gallery has free admission.
