On a recent visit to Cornwall close to Callington, we were recommended that if we wanted locally produced cheeses then a visit to the market place in Tavistock was the place to go. We were not disappointed we left with a bag full of local cheeses mostly Yarg and Kern. Fabulous shop and a great selection of cheeses all served by friendly knowledgable staff. If your into your cheese and are in the area then stop by, you won't be disappointed.

Was on The Independent newspaper's list of the Top 50 British Bookshops. This is a delightful shop, better possibly than you could hope for in a modest country town, even Tavistock. It occupies three floors in a terrace, the ground and first being occupied by the books and the top floor, called the Music Room has a well selected stock of CDs Vinyl and DVDs and the choices cover Rock Jazz Classica Jazz Folk 'and more'. My home town of Plymouth just has a couple of branches of W's and two (one good) second hand bookshops. Unless you need your book same day, it's almost inevitable that we buy from Amazon except where we want to feel and browse and then buy from Amazon. BUT if we're in or near Tavistock the Book Stop is easily worth a visit. It's friendly and helpful and the stock, which while not encyclopaedic, has a good selection in most fields. Difficult not to leave without at least having ought something(s). And, if you know you will be in again within a day or so, I don't mind buying books which they need to order. I used to do this with the University Bookseller in Plymouth until the online sellers pushed it out but I'm happy to buy from Tavistock.

We are a family run business based in the historic market town of Tavistock on the edge of Dartmoor, in the lovely county of Devon. We specialise in offering unique handmade gifts and home accessories such as Jewellery, Candles, Handmade Lampshades, Clocks, Furniture, Cards, Handbags, Scarves, Tea Towels, Oven Gloves, Coasters, Soaps and local artwork. We sell these alongside our core giftware ranges which include Dartington Crystal and Lolita Glasswear and are the official Beatrix Potter stockists for Tavistock.
Fascinated to discover a newly owned shop in Tavistock, which is trying to showcase the work of a lot of talented local creative people in the area. The gifts range from handmade cards and candles to pottery and and amazing little hand knitted booties. There are also some collectible books and some hand made goods from further afield. What was great was that there are original items from £1 upwards. I bought 3 hand made items, which cost less than £5.00 in total. It is so nice to find affordable original items that make unusual gifts. Each trader appears to have one or two shelves jammed with creative goodies. Well worth a visit. This is a shop and so I'm not sure if you can call it 'an attraction', but I really enjoyed looking around while waiting to go for a coffee with a friend.

Dave has his own gorgeous artwork on sale there as well as fabulous pieces of artwork from the Art Deco era. It’s a place to revisit often as there are always new things and beautiful things to tempt you. Whether it’s for a gift or yourself it really is worth visiting.
