Great place to shop for undergarments. The staff is very helpful with one-on-one attention to make sure you are buying exactly what fits properly. Lots of selection to choose from as well.

Books & Company is one of my all-time favourite places in Prince George. When I was a student at UNBC, this was one of my regular haunts. Since leaving the city a number of years ago, I’ve made it a point to stop off here to browse (and buy) books so long as time permitted. And while I do consider myself a bibliophile, it’s always been the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of Books & Company that’s drawn me in. The rest of Canada, it seems, has slowly started to take notice. I say that because Books & Company’s profile has been on a slow but steady rise in the last few years. In 2015, for example, PG’s iconic bookstore made Buzzfeed’s list of 35 “Charming Canadian Bookstores You Need To Visit.” And they didn’t come in at #30 or some other unforgettable number; no, they ranked quite highly at #4, just behind Russell Books, Munro’s Books and MacLeod’s Books. To say Books & Company scored an upset in that list would be an understatement; however, it’s a ranking that’s been well earned. Books & Company has been a “refuge for book lovers” since 1993. Over the last 27 years, they’ve woven themselves deep within Prince George’s arts and pop culture scene. One important way they’ve been able to do this is through the combination of dialogue and diversity. Early on, the owners at Books & Company made it clear that they wanted to be more than just an independent bookstore. To that end, they diversified the store to include the ever popular Café Voltaire on the main floor and ArtSpace on the upper level. Café Voltaire functions as a comfortable and relaxing java stop (replete with fresh baked goods and enticing soups), perfect for reading and, yes, philosophizing with friends over the latest issues. ArtSpace, on the other hand, is home to music and live performances. Dialogue and diversity in action. At the level of bookstore, though, Books & Company punches well above its weight. They have all the latest bestsellers and hot releases; they have a good selection of history, poetry, philosophy and culture texts (broadly defined); and they feature many a useful book sundry like bags, cards, bookmarks and other such related trinkets. One of the things I enjoy most about this bookstore, though, is its emphasis on the local; that is to say, its strong lean towards Northern BC. Thus, you will find the likes of Barry McKinnon, Leslie Barnwell, Jacqueline Baldwin, Rob Budde, Gillian Wigmore, Jeremy Stewart, Ken Belford and Eden Robinson all well represented. For me, it’s this emphasis on “the north” that truly makes Books & Company one of the best independent bookstores out there. They know their audience and they listen. Indeed, Books & Company is integral to the local culture of Prince George. Through their eclectic selection of texts, live performances and guest speakers, they’ve contributed to a vital dialogue that’s helped to shape the spirit of a city. We need only think of the role this place has played in providing a platform to budding writers, or its indirect channelling the PG poetry wars of 2012, for evidence of this. Books & Company is a rich tapestry of culture and it’s one that should be patronized on any visit to Prince George.

You have to try the Thursday night makers lab. So much fun. Can't say enough good stuff about it. Bring the kids or go on your own. Look up what special things they have going on. There seems to be something for everyone.
