Queens Botanical Garden evolved from the 5-acre “Gardens on Parade” exhibit showcased at the 1939–1940 World’s Fair. Officially opening as “The Queens Botanical Garden Society” in 1946 after local residents saved and expanded the original exhibit, the Garden remained at the original World’s Fair site until 1961, when it was moved to its current location on Main Street in Flushing. Among the original plantings taken from the 1939 site are two blue atlas cedars that frame the iconic tree gate sculpture at the Garden’s Main Street entrance today. QBG has become a 39-acre oasis in one of New York City’s most bustling and diverse neighborhoods and is unlike any other botanical garden in the world. Note that hours and admissions change throughout the year: April through October: Tuesdays through Sundays, 8am to 6pm. November through March: Tuesdays through Sundays, 8am to 4:30pm. When you enter the New World Mall it has several floors with retail stores and a robust Asian supermarket. The foodcourt is located on the lower level of the mall. This is the hidden gem of the mall. There you will find a wide array of stalls with a diverse selection of authentic Asian cuisine where the locals come to eat. PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT MUST IF NOT ALL VENDORS TAKE CASH ONLY. Towards the very back of the foodcourt tucked away in the corner is stall L25. We have traveled throughout Asia and outside of Asia, eating dumplings, while not Asian, we feel we know sufficient general knowledge to be able to identify a good dumpling. These dumplings are very good. The ladies prepare them fresh and the ingredients are delicious. The price point is extremely reasonable allowing you to purchase them if nothing else to get a taste for them. I do not believe you will be disappointed. Please note that these are traditional dumplings so they are "boiled" not fried. The ladies are very hard working, you get the added bonus of being able to watch them do their special technique of creating the dumpling. They are very nice and provide excellent customer service. We will definitely be going back when in town again. We loved the experience.
