Dubai is a destination that mixes modern culture with history, adventure with world-class shopping and entertainment. Catch a show at the Dubai Opera, see downtown from atop the Burj Khalifa and spend an afternoon along Dubai Creek exploring the gold, textile and spice souks. If you’re looking for thrills, you can float above the desert dunes in a hot air balloon, climb aboard a high-speed ride at IMG Worlds of Adventure or skydive over the Palm Jumeirah.

The Blue Waters Development is a beautiful area to walk in, especially in the evening when the area is all lit up. There are ice cream vendors, shops and restaurants and a fancy hotel, but we enjoyed the most walking along the promenade on both sides of the peninsula. The side with the apartments was very quiet with beautiful landscaping and the side facing JBR beach has a breathtaking view of the Marina highrises, the Walk at JBR and numerous boats of all shapes and sizes coming in and out of the Marina, often also with beautiful lights. There are a number of modernist artificial "trees" that are constantly changing colors from a deep blue to a bright red. You can drive to Bluewaters but it's more scenic to take the footbridge from JBR beach which is also bathed in iridescent blue light. The giant ferris wheel was running when we visited but did not yet accept guests. I think it was being tested and looked to be open soon.
