Studio Mendut is not only an art gallery which sells high quality arts and crafts, but this is a place where local artists and even international artists communicate and have discussion all about arts, cultures and social activities and impacts in Indonesia, especially Java island. Studio Mendut or Mendut Studio is an independent 'socio-culture media' to express and perform what we call the truth of arts and cultures by creating local arts, crafts. Wooden masks, sculptures, glass paintings, Puppets, beautiful fabrics, folk dances, and many other art creations decorates beautifully the art home. It is a real place to see and learn Java's culture, located 50 meters from an ancient's 8th century Buddhist temple and a Buddhist Monastery called 'Mendut Temple.

I love this place. About 40 small antique stores all crammed together in one spot. Amazing inexpensive shopping with great finds for a good eye. I could easily spend 3 hours browsing. Great for wayang golek (wooden puppets), topeng (masks), statues, and great old strange artifacts and signs. A must stop!!!

I love this traditional market in Solo, it’s like throw me back to my childhood in my mother’s village in Java. They always have many traditional food & beverages and the taste wow, always consistent. The seller generation from maybe my belated mother’s age until their children continue this tradition. Amazing. So, here are some tips to try the local delicacies: Nasi Pecel (rice with mixed vegetables and top up with peanuts sauce), Mie goreng, Mie Pentil (fried noodles), lumpia goreng (spring rolls), Es dawet (beverages made from rice flour) & lot more. You can bring home brown sugar made from coconut as well as wedang uwuh (mixed herb drinks good for your health) that you can buy from this market. Very recommended for the tourist either local or foreigners to strolling and take lots of interesting photos.
