The submarine museum gives you a perfect impression of how claustrofobic life on a submarine must have been The submarine is well preserved

You have to visit this former nuclear icebreaker on a russian tour. Since we didn't understand any of what was being said we just took photos and looked up information online later. The tour moves quite quickly, so we didn't have time to read the English information on the walls.

Climb aboard this massive training ship which belonged to the Baltic Fleet and played a key role in the start of the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917.
Aurora is a famous cruiser and nowadays upper deck is like in old good time while the lower deck is a museum. Its lovely arranged and only downside is all the informations are only in Russian language so one might consider taking a tour guide.Anyway its a great place to visit..to feel the moment of history! You will find so many interesting info(like the places visited by Aurora, battles ,etc),photos, pieces of clothes, weapons etc...

Our first riverboat cruise on a revisit to St. Petersburg- staff were warm and welcoming and suites of a high standard although not much sound proofing from adjacent rooms .Ensuite was compact but adequate with generous amenities provided. The ship was clean and comfortable through out .Free WiFi was variable in speed . Food was OK plenty of choices but we found the dishes sometimes a bit too bland or too salty. We usually opted for the local dishes . The evening menu and portions were a bit limited ( we were a group of eight and some people had 2 cubes of potatoes when others had 8 , similarly with steaks - some were fist sized and others were finger sized ) -however not a problem in ordering additional dishes . Tours were mostly included , well paced and not too early with water bottles provided a nice touch. Additional optional tours could be done independently at a fraction of the cost however one would miss out on the tour guided information as a lot of museums didn't have English speaking audio guide or notices to exhibits, plus there was the (minimal ) hassle of getting around by metro . Overall I felt the boat tour was good and enjoyable ( especially for singles, those who need a slower pace , and those who are prone to travel / sea sickness ), however it isn't suited for those looking for exciting evening entertainment - most were in bed with a hot chocolate and cookies by 10 pm ( me included) .There was a pianist and singer who were excellent and very talented. St Petersburg and Moscow - so much to see and do will require a further revisit - better to tag a few days extra onto tour if you can arrange . What struck me most was the warm friendliness and helpfulness of the local people , the humour of the guides and outstanding cruise director Yulia of Viking Truvor. Not sure if I would opt for another river cruise - perhaps of a shorter duration, but would definitely consider another trip to Russia .
