you can enjoy a short , beautiful walk to the end, or take the longer coastal trail. there is also a side trail down to the water, you can walk all the way around the point at low tide. the rocks, especially on the west side, are amazing.

Worth walking out to, whatever the weather, as the view across the legendary sandhill is excellent. Expansive vantage point for views of the coastline and ocean. Really makes you appreciate the scale and size of the Hokianga harbour. The bar looks challenging!

I was blown away with the walk, how quiet it was, and how majestic the Kauri trees were. They stand like soldiers guarding the forest and the secrets within. The walk was easy going and about 1.3 km to Te Matua Ngahere. There was certainly something special about this place.

360 degree views from this historic pa site, mostly across the harbours and out to the ocean. Well worth the 10 minute walk from the carpark, Terraces evident, easy to imagine how the pa might have been.

This is a great way to experience to grandeur of an ancient Kauri forest without trekking for miles. It is well- signposted off Oromahoe Rd and only takes 15 minutes to walk in. The Kauri are awesome, many of of them appearing to be only a 100 or so years old but there is one monster at the end of the track reputed to be over 400 years old. The path is easy and well- maintained and should present a problem to most walkers. Our grandchildren love it and even though they have been a nice bet of times, will ask to go again when ever they visit!

We were stopping at Ahipara Bay and drove about an hour and a half to the cape. From the car park, we walked along a good track to the top of a hill with breathtaking views of the lighthouse and the convergence of the Tasman and the Pacific. Interesting turbulence where the two meet. Then walked down to the lighthouse for more scenic views. Spent about an hour enjoying the scenery and photographing. Good toilets at the carpark.

There are 2 walks in this area and you can easily get confused reading the reviews. The one I went for is the Paihia School Road track which is a shorter one. It takes about an hour and a bit from Paihia township up to the lookout and back, going at a steady medium pace. Access is from School Road and you can get to School road through the carpark behind Countdown on Williams Road. With kids and slow leisurely walks, it would be close to hour and half or so. The hike is reasonably easy with well looked after gravel type paths, stairs and walkways. A little way up the hike, the second walk veers off to the left and its the longer one to Opua. View from the lookout area is nice but not as impressive, with vegetation covering off most of it. Take water if its a hot day and good walking shoes. A pleasant way to spend an hour in Paihia during the day.

The pancakes rocks are 5 minutes away from the parking lot. They are an amazing feat of nature. Well worth a visit. Recommended age 7 onwards. Fitness level - average but be prepared to climb on rocks.

Great coastal walk with lovely views. Parts rough and steep but well manageable. Depending on tide timea you can walk parts along the beach but the full track is accessible regardless. Look out for Terry as he has been maintaining the paths for years and is doing a fine job of it.
