Situated on the banks of Palar River, Vellore is a historically rich city that has appeared many times in chapters of Indian history. Being an integral part of Tamil Nadu, Vellore draws the picture of deep- rooted Tamil culture being practiced in the region since generations. It is strongly attached with Hindu Gods and Goddess and one can get a clear reflection of traditional Tamil customs and rituals being carried out in the temples. The historical Vellore Fort houses one of the finest examples of Vijaynagar architecture, the Jalakandeswarar Temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva who is worshipped here in the form of Jalakandeswarar. It is one of the ancient temples in India that houses a well inside its complex that is considered to be Ganga. The main deity of Jalakandeswarar in the form of Linga with Rudraksha Mala is found inside the garba griha. Unfortunately, this temple remained closed for a considerable time period when its main deity was shifted to a distant place. The deity was later brought back to the main complex and is now worshipped by hundreds of devotees throughout the year.

It is a nice temple and well maintained and is located about 12 kms from Vellore fort. The temple history is captured on a wall inside the temple . The place was not too crowded and we a had a good darshan. The lingam is slightly tilted and the reason is also mentioned.

We got down at Arakkonam and took local bus to Kondapalayam (a place for tala neelalu) it is hardly a ride of 24KM. From there the Yoga Narasimha Swamy temple is 2KM, you can eat a healthy breakfast at AryaBhavan and then start your trip way up the hill. Note- On the way up to the hill protect yourselves and kids from monkeys by purchasing a stick at the start for Rs 5.

Perumal Temple is one of the most beautiful and must to see & visit temples in Yelagiri. This is located in a very quite place and one needs to climb down a slight attitude in order to reach the temple. There is good amount of parking space available at the entrance of the temple and one needs to walk down few steps or steeps slope along a beautiful rangoli paved path. At the entrance of the temple you can have the glimpse of Lord baby krishna photo which is very beautiful also on the left side we see the Lord Krishna dancing on Kaliya (snake). There is a big idol of Perumal and as soon as you can see it you can find the inner peace. There are many small small temples that are beautifully sculptured for which we need to climb few steps and have the glimpse of them. Overall a beautiful temple which should not be missed and one can enjoy it much during early morning or evening sunset time.
