This temple is one of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalam temples. The main deity - Linga is big and said to that it has a scar because of the then king's sword hit the Linga by mistake. The scar on the Linga is filled and closed with sandalwood paste all through a the year except one day - Sadaya nakshatra during the month of March-April. The King begged pardon and was blessed by Lord Shiva. During difficult times, the Lord offered to help the king and even Nandi sits in opposite direction in an attempt to help the king to defeat dacoits. The Goddess is called Kodiyidai Nayagi - and the place is one of the Sakthi origins - known for Kriya Shakthi. It took around 20 minutes to go around the temple and have pleasant dharshan.
