First of all I chose Khanom because of the pink dolphins that live there. The staff were all so kind and courteous and made us very welcome. It was a fine sandy white beach and the Andaman sea was so warm as was the pool. It wasn't a big hotel but actually I really like that because it made it a very personal experience. They threw in a complimentary half day trip to see the dolphins for good measure which I wasn't going to miss for the world. We did a few trips out and spent the rest of the time just relaxing on the beach and in the pool. Sa and Ae our driver (I apologise if I have the names wrong) were amazing and really looked after us. The pink dolphin tour which was on a longboat was wonderful. I loved seeing these beautiful pod of dolphins playing and swimming in their natural environment. I just hope that they are there forever. The City tour to Nakhon Si Thammarat was also very interesting and the high point of the trip was visiting The Shadow House of Suchat Sapsin which has a museum filled with puppets from different parts of the world. However it also has a puppet theatre which puts on about a 30 minute performance of a puppet show which they have an explanation for in English. It has a small cafe and some souvenirs such as shadow puppets that you can buy. Basically you look around the museum, you watch the show which is just magical and then a member of the family shows you how they make the puppets which are made out of cow skin. In fact her English is really good. We had a lovely lunch in the City and we went in a cave which had great stalactites and stalagmites and to top it all bats ( I belong to a bat group). To add to that because we ran out of time to go to the waterfall Sa and Ae took us to it the next morning where we stayed for an hour and then they picked us up. The rooms were very clean, the food was wonderful and it was lovely drinking a cocktail watching the ocean. We actually met the owner a couple of times at the hotel who was very keen to know our thoughts on his hotel. In fact he said that all the staff loved having the English visitors there especially as there were mainly a lot of Thai people staying there some with their families. He actually thanked me for letting him know that there was a leak around the bottom of the toilet when we left saying that he would make sure it was sorted out. The Thai massage I had on the last night was great because she did it on the beach so I could hear the ocean when she did it. Bliss. In fact I cried because I didn't want to leave and I got a hug from one of the restaurant staff. Khanom is perfect if you love wildlife, chilling, the beach, Thai massages and happy to do a couple of interesting trips.

Small Boutique Resort right on one of the most beautiful beaches of Khanom in a large tropical botanical garden. Spacious, luxurious rooms all with private terraces. Sunbeds than available at the two beaches in front of the hotel and in the pool area. Exquisite cosy restaurant with thai, western and fusion cuisine.
I was compelled to write this review, even though its been a little while since our trip. We stayed at the Khanom Hill Resort for a week and ate at least one meal at the Khanom Hill Resort restaurant every day. This family owned and operated resort and restaurant was a jewel. The food was fantastic and the service by Ra and the rest of the family was wonderful. One of the highlights was our family going to the local market with Ta in the morning and picking out a gorgeous whole red snapper fish and large crab, and then she brought it back and cooked it for my dinner that night! The property rented us mopeds, arranged a fantastic dolphin viewing trip (we saw the pink dolphins!!), and supported our visit in every way. Every day the food was consistently excellent. My two boys enjoyed a variety of dishes on the menu as well. The gorgeous setting of looking out onto the beach and water, and the ancestral spirit house to the side of the dining area perfectly complemented the experience. I often think of the resort, the high quality of food, and the family staff of Ta, Thom, and Ra. Their generosity and attentiveness was really unparalleled. I can't say enough about the experience. I have written this review in hopes of supporting what they offer to others. Super five stars!!

This property is in need of significant upgrade. The condition is so very poor. Everything about the room was in need to replacing, not just additional cleaning. And the open shower concept looks nice until you actual use the shower and water goes everywhere. A shower curtain wold be a good addition. The breakfast was very unappealing and we ate elsewhere. The lighting is extremely poor and dangerous. on one path I counted only 6 of 36 lights actually working. Many stairs also lack sufficient light and railings. This location is not safe.

We had the pleasure of staying at Le Petit Saint Tropez for 4 nights. The villa was spacious and had a wonderful sea view. The owners, Julien and Stephanie, were delightful. Nothing was too much trouble. It was a real treat to have the choice of French or Thai food. The French was prepared by Stephanie and was out of this world. The Thai food was made by a local Thai chef which was equally tasty. We can’t wait till we visit again! Ben & Natalie

….DOESN’T GO OUT OF ITS WAY TO PLEASE WESTERN TRAVELERS. Here’s the thing – the 70 km of coast south of DON SAC (the mainland pier location for the very popular SOUTHERN GULF ISLANDS) has some great beaches, but you see very few western travelers – this is the preserve of Thai holiday makers and local beach users. SICHON is typical. Hell, very few people understand English in town or the general area. Refreshing - I’ve always found few problems communicating wishes in such places. “Refreshing” because you instantly understand you are not in SAMUI/PHANGAN/YADA where everything is tilted towards westerners’ ideas of beach holidays. Thais’ wants are different – so when you go down to the beach very few people are swimming and sunning: Thais prefer to sit in beachside bars/restaurants downing lotsa food and drink, fossicking in the sand and rock pools and maybe paddling in the water. Most don’t worry about swim-suits – they just roll the jeans up and go for it. The whole thing is perfectly relaxed – I particularly like the “sitting in beach restaurants/bars” thing. Not crazy. Ir was similar with my resort, THIPBUREE. This very good value lower mid-range place is a Thai version of a MOTOR INN/MOTEL They don’t care about western wants – for instance the joint has NO POO L (what was the last western motel you saw minus a pool?) No-one understood English well – okay, they dragged the teen-aged relative out who had a VERY basic high school knowledge, but otherwise I got on okay with sign language. THE JOINT – as said a kinda motor-inn/motel – looks recently built: several 2 storey blocks, a few villa type places, mine a single storey room which had a very motel-like presentation – sliding doors, rendered cement + tile. Space for 3+gear. Well equipped but you stock minibar. I couldn’t change TV channels. Big bed firm but comfy. Lights dim but bathroom brilliant for readers. Aircon sinfully quiet (noisy aircon the main reason I prefer fan rooms). Nice outside balcony. Only 50m to the southern half of the beach. Great value for money. Seemed popular with traveling Thais – parking lots 70% full late on a Monday morning. My motorcycle taxi guy from town knew where HIN NGAM was but didn’t have a clue about THIPBUREE’s location (understandable: nearly all guests are middle-class Thais with their own vehicles/Tom Tom likedevices – don’t need motorcycle taxis). I gave him 70 baht for the 4km trip + 20b tip for the confusion. Latter is what he'd get for a short trip in town. THE PRECINCT - The HIN NGAM RESORT PRECINCT lies behind the beach and across the narrow isthmus to the south. This 700x160m area is all resorts/hotels, some looking about 20 years old, others like THIPBUREE quite recent. There are about half a dozen places, almost exclusively Thai style and ranging in standard from lower-mid-range to true mid-range, maybe better. The latter may be a bit exxy by Thai standards but pretty good value in western terms. There are several beachside restaurant/bars along here, most attached to resorts but a few’re independent. I used ISSARA BEACH RESORT’s restaurant next to THIPBUREE (which hasn’t a restaurant). Great sand-side position, very comprehensive Thai menu (not big on western stuff), popular with local walk-ins, and the cheapest beer all 3 weeks of my mulit-stop Thai trip. The efficient waitresses didn’t understand English but they still knew what “beer” meant. THE BEACH – this gets confusing. The main beach our front is called SICHON BEACH despite the HIN NGAM area directly behind. Many people think it’s called HIN NAM BEACH, but that is directly south and is a boulder beach, nowhere near as attractive. TRIPADVISOR has dedicated pages on both. SICHON BEACH - is pretty nice. It’s about 750m long, not too narrow at full tide, the water is fairly clean and shelves normally offshore. I saw some reviewers’ pix showing beach erosion and litter – these are probably from a WET SEASON VISIT when strong prevailing onshore winds wash a lot of flotsam and jetsam onto the sand and can cut the beach pretty badly. From early experience, I avoid the southern Gulf including the trendy islands in wet season (usually late Sept into early Jan). Good value is spending time exploring the tracks on the headland just south. DID I MENTION FEW WESTERNERS? -in my 3 days there I saw no other westerners on the beach or in the busy town. I did notice a few older farang couples in SICHON CABANA’s (maybe the most western orientated of the resorts) restaurant when I checked the menu. SUM UP –this beach is the perfect place for travelers wanting to see how Thais do coastal visits. And THIPBUREE RESORT is just the place if you want a good value lower midrange Thai oriented place.

Very nice and cosy place. We had the superior bungalow with view on the sea/beach. Really beautiful. The room is basic, but clean. Small terrace upfront and with airco and a fan. We had breakfast on the beach at CC beach bar which is just a few steps away from the bungalow. Nice place also, with sweet people and good food. :-)) The owner of BAMBOO resort ( Nadine ) is a pleasant and kind woman. Very helpfull too. Only stayed two nights, but could have stayed longer without a problem. We will return one day. :-)))
