June 16, 2021 Veronika Gaddis

In Turin, the capital of the Piedmont region of northwest Italy, sports cars and chocolate are a matter of pride. The city is also home to the Museo Egizio, one of the most impressive collections of Egyptian artifacts in the world. A stroll around Piazza Castello and along the Via Roma encompasses many of the must-see sights. Valentino Park houses an 18th-century castle, botanic garden and medieval village. When you've worked up an appetite, sample casual trattorias for pastas, regional wines and coffees.

Sunday early morning, grey and chilly air... "Daytime sleep is like the sin of the flesh" The mountain was hided by a low cloud but when we went up, here we are, the abbeys appear on top of the rock, strong and proud, majestic even and so humble at the same time. We made the tour on our own and we enjoyed a lot, following our instinct and timing. We just had to be out of the church by midday because of the Sunday mass - obvious. It is a touristic place but used by living monks! Don't forget, it is a beautiful location but most of all a religious mecca, a strong spiritual location on the Saint Michaels's line. I'll go back on Spring for sure. “Love is wiser than wisdom.” Umberto Eco

The Museo delle Antichità Egizie in Turin is the only museum other than the Cairo Museum that is dedicated solely to Egyptian art and culture. It houses one of the largest collections of Egyptian antiquities with more than 30,000 artefacts. The first object having an association with Egypt to arrive in Turin was the Mensa Isiaca in 1630, an altar table in imitation of Egyptian style. The collections that make up today’s Museum were enlarged by the excavations conducted in Egypt by the Museum’s archaeological mission between 1900 and 1935 (a period when finds were divided between the excavators and Egypt). But we don't want to spoil your visit too much... There's so much to discover inside this incredible museum! Follow your expert guide around the different areas of the museum and listen to the explanations of the history and legends that hide behind the fascinating artefacts you can see all around you.

Wish we had read the reviews before booking. Palermo is quite small and most the main sights are very central, so you don’t really need a bus tour. However, even if you are not keen on walking, the bus tour will be of little use, as the advertised ‘hop on, hop off, every 20 minutes’ is simply untrue. The bus only arrives every 90 minutes (we lunched in a restaurant next to the stop we alighted from and that was the time gap). In addition, there is no access to a live map for bus arrivals, so you have no idea when the next bus will arrive. In a nutshell, it’s a rip off.

Join your guide for a tour of the beautifully decorated and furnished apartments of the first kings of Italy, the Savoy.  In the Galleria Beaumont, with echoes of the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles, you will see the Royal Armoury with its collection of ancient armour.  There is the impressive Royal Library with in excess of two hundred thousand books and a famous self-portrait of Leonardo da Vinci.  The Royal Palace is also connected to the Cappella della Sindone; Guarino Guarini used a master stroke to build this chapel one floor above that of the presbytery of the Duomo so allowing direct access from the Royal apartments! On this 2.5 hour tour in the company our very knowledgeable and passionate guide you will learn about the Royal Family and how the future unification of Italy came about.
