Balloons over Bagan was probably a highlight however the while trip over something for all the senses and the people we met were wonderful.

Surrounded by Pa-O village and arranged neatly in straight rows, the 2000-plus stupas at Kakku are one of the most impressive, yet least visited sites in Shan State. Built in numerous styles, a number of the stupas are simple in design whilst others are richly decorated and covered in deities. Legends refer to the creation of Kakku by Buddhist missionaries, dating back in the 3rd century and combine both simple and well-adorned stupas. Restoration of the complex commenced years ago to maintain this awe-inspiring scene outside Inle Lake.

If you have limited time, this is a great day trip (around 13 hours) from Yangon, taking in some of the most important Buddhist sites in the area, and allowing you to see the lush landscapes of Myanmar. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and our driver was very efficient at dropping us off and picking us up from various locations. All attraction entry prices, water and food are included. The company, Colors of Myanmar, was also very obliging, helping us to change the date of our tour when we couldn't make it on the day we had originally planned. Highly recommended!

Cannot praise Adventure Myanmar tours enough for their excellent service. From their guides, drivers, help with check ins at airports we were taken care of wonderfully. We flew from Yangon to Inle lake, Mandalay and Bagan and back to Yangon Nothing was too much trouble for them and everything was so well organised. Our trip was stress free and we received so many presents too as well as a lovely meal paid for by them on our last night in Myanmar. We were so touched by all the presents and the meal, which other tour company does that?

Even a well travelled person should venture up to Golden Rock. The obligatory ride in the back of the government lorries was exhilarating, uncomfortable - yes, seated on a narrow bench, but the journey up the windy, mountain single track road was impressive. The conductor was collecting the fares whilst balanced on the outside ledge of the vehicle! There is a new cable car near the summit for a different approach. On arrival at the sacred site, I had not anticipated having to walk through a village barefoot. Remember to put your shoes in your bag and keep them with you. Those who could not walk the distance paid to be carried on a litter! We bought food at the many stalls. There were lots of families at the summit, sitting peacefully picnicking, sleeping, chatting, just whiling away the day together. The rock is very imposing and obviously very sacred for the pilgrims. Only men may touch it and add more gold leaf to it. The surrounding scenery is very beautiful and dramatic. The Buddhist pilgrims are very respectful, reverend and seemed to enjoy their time at the temple immensely. The whole day was very memorable, I would certainly return. I would not stay at a hotel there as they seemed basic, overpriced and remote. We took the relaxing train to Bago, explored the great sites there, hired a driver for the day, went to Golden Rock and then lots of places on the way back.
