Natural beauty abounds in the state of Uttaranchal's Lake District. Boaters flock to hill-ringed Naini Lake, which according to mythology is one of the emerald eyes of Shiva's wife. A hike or horseback ride to the top of Naina Peak (aka China Peak), the highest point, provides stunning views of the snow-capped Himalayas. To share a prime vantage point with family members of all ages, take the aerial lift up to Snow View; there's also a small marble temple at the top dedicated to Dev Mundi.

This walking holiday in Binsar wildlife sanctuary in Kumaon in Uttarakhand, India is a great option for those looking for an easy trek in the Himalayas. December is always holiday time with most of the MNCs at Bangalore shutting down ensuring that you take proper breaks and rejuvenate yourself. My vacation planning this time was a last-minute affair. Thanks to Shyam and @Outdoers.in who made the trip possible. I got introduced with Shyam while I was browsing through some reviews on trip advisor and the name “Meghalaya -A walk in the Clouds” struck my eyes ..Few calls to Shyam and our 9 days itinerary was made . I didn’t even google the places in the itinerary. This was our first visit to that part of India???? too. So, we -3 Musketeers’ stuffed all our winter clothes (the temperature can go low as 6 ◦ C at some places) and if you are travelling from Bangalore (18-20 degrees) this temp will be super cold for you in the first few days till your body get adjusted. At airport we were welcomed by our Guide (Pankaj from Outdoers team and Nayan...ji the driver. They both were great company for us for the next 9 days. A true “Atithidevo Bhav “experience. When you drive from Guwahati through Shillong few things which will catch your eyes are clean roads, waste bins every nook and corner, even u see them on village roads and Maruthi cars (800 and Alto) black for taxies and mostly white for private care everywhere. I guess the people there are obsessed with Maruti brand and small cars …by the way their cars are super clean too???? 1.Our first stop was Langkawet – “The Retreat “welcomed us. It’s a remote resort tucked inside the Langkawet village with beautiful farms around. The misty morning walks on the small village roads is a real pleasure and truly mesmerizing experience. Another amazing thing about this place is the homemade hot hot food by Victor (the owner) and his team. We also tasted some amazing non veg local cuisines. I learned a non veg Sesame recipe and tried that at home too. Only thing you need to watch out in this place is the temperature .... for us it was 7 to 9 degrees. Next few days trekked to Shnongpdeng and the blissful Umgnot river. This is a very beautiful clear river and you would be able to see stones underneath. The water is so pure and clean. There is a bamboo bridge which helps you cross to the other side. Throughout the trip we tried local cuisines from hotels, the local guides also helped us in eating/ trying some amazing delicacies. Trekked to Shilliang .to see the few " Living root bridges". 2.Shora – “Cherrapunjee” this is how it is branded outside (this is the second rainiest place on earth) 3. Trekked to Nohkahlikai falls, here we were exposed to the wonders of dense subtropical forest as you negotiate the steep trails of Nohkahilikai falls (we had a great local guide " Baan" " he is a certified mountaineer himself, great trek and Amazing view from the water fall top 4. Mawlongbna - The place we stayed inTraveller's Nest this is run by the villages and the youngsters of the village volunteer and take turns to look after the place and the travelers. A very well-kept place. More treks followed to Split Rock – this is a spectacular and beautiful creation, is as high as a 4 storied building. We climbed down by ladder and walked through the narrow passage, these passages get filled with water during monsoon, making this site a wonderful place of river canyoning. Explored some amazing rock formations and ancient fossils. Explored a Cave (pitch dark inside) we had head lamps and torches with us, walked inside for almost 1.5 kms. the entire cave length was 3 Kms…To add on the suspense our guide after (1.5 kms) asked us to switch off lights and feel the silence. At that moment even though the silence was enchanting, I was reminded of English movies were a creature would come out of water and swallowed you ☹ …. Jokes apart …the experience of Cave dwelling was amazing Next, we came back to Shillong city and enjoy some local shopping at " Police Bazaar". We stayed at “Aerodene cottage” (Aerodene in fact is a truly hidden gem in a quiet lane in Dhankheti locality). They have very beautiful garden where you can enjoy your morning sun shine The neighboring state Assam greeted us the next, visited the Pobitra wildlife Sanctuary, it’s on the southern bank of the mighty Brahmaputra in Morigaon district in Assam. The boat ride on the river and the sunset view is truly an eye catcher. Pobitra has the highest density of Rhino population in the world. Eco resort run by Champak (he is a conservationist of wild animals) was a great get away for us. With the early morning Elephant ride, we sighted plenty of Rhinos and wild bisons. The cold mornings at Mayong (Mayong has a Mahabharata angle. it’s believed that Ghatotkacha’s clan used to live here and the village is known for its magical powers in olden times, it said that even today every family in this village knows some magic) The last stop was Guwahati …it was more of street food time now with the help of our Driver Nayan- he is a self-made man who came to Guwahati at the age of 11, he knows in all the locations in North east and is reliable than your travel review pages and google maps Over all an amazing holiday to a beautiful place and very warm people. Thank you Shyam and Outdoers for making this possible for us.

I Visited pilibhit tiger reserve in January 2019 with 2 more people. That was my first tour with travelderness. I heard a lot about Mr. Sachin pushkarna and travelderness so I planned my first ever pilibhit tour with them .. he is such a great host that he even changed the tour dates as per my convenience because I missed their last tour . Sachinji is a very knowledgeable , experienced birder and has a significant knowledge of Indian wildnerness as well . He looks after the group members as his own family . In just a period of only 3 - 4 days we all developed family like bonding and intimacy ... He takes best care of the guests as per their individual need , provide the wonderful tastier food of guest's choice and best available accomodation. I was very much amazed with his very caring and loving hostship and would love to do more n more wildlife and birding tour with travelderness ...????????????

This was my maiden trek for Himalayas. I did many western ghat treks but believe me Himalayas itself has unique charm. About RidingSolo, I beleive they are best in the field. I did few research before choosing them and the whole team made it so easy for me. Though I was solo female but Didn't face any issues. They served really tasty food at top hills, likewise we got Gulab jamun , Kheer and almost 5 times they feed accordingly. Guides were so professional and Shivam and Shakshi did their job at best. I must recommend riding Solo if you are planning for any trek in Himalayas. Looking forward to do more treks with them .

Highlights Interaction with the locals and learning how they sustain themselves under extreme conditions in the winter months, what they grow and what they consume . Also, learning about their local festivals, dances and cultural and religious events. Birding throughout the duration of the tour specially in and around dau and bajling dhar . places very rich in birdlife and some rare Himalayan birds . Camping at the high altitude of Bajling dhar ,a high altitude meadow which can be reached via a trek of 4 kms from Khati. The views of the greater himalayas and himalayan peaks like Trishul, nanda devi, Maiktoli etc. are fascinating from this place. Mingling with Harak singh and family , the ever-hospitable owners of our homestay through lengthy and fun filled talks over bonfire and meals . Walk to the nearby villages of Dau and Jaikhuni which provide with you with a great view of the Sunderdunga and Pindar glacier, these two villages are also very rich in bird density.

The trip was meticulously planned and executed to perfection to suite our requirements of birding. Icing on the cake was birding while it was snowing. Our guide knew all the happening birding hotspots and the bird species and that was a great help. I was able to see some very exotic species that I had hoped for and some more. Got nice pics too. The tour operator even accommodated our last minute request to add a stop during the return leg. Perfect trip. I have already done 3 trips with this organisation and plan to do more. Just waiting for the pandemic to be over.
