Kamchatka (peninsula in the far east of Russia) was born of fire, like the Earth itself. Kamchatka has never seen quiet - its history is one of continuous, violent rebirth. It is the most active area of our planet where volcanic activity manifests itself in all its beauty. Almost everywhere the skyline is contoured with volcanoes. It composed of more than 160 volcanoes, 29 of which are still active. In addition there is a multitude of thermal and mineral springs, geysers and other phenomena of active volcanism. The volcanic area of Kamchatka has been declared since 1996 a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Kamchatka is no doubt one of the most beautiful places you’ve ever seen in your life.

We booked for the Swan Lake ballet on 25 December 2019, with travel date on 24 May 2020, through U Visit Russia. . Due to the Covit19 pandemic we were unable to visit Russia nor attend the ballet. Two tickets were purchased for US$465.50. U Visit Russia was advised of not being able to attend and agreed to pay a full refund but there would be a delay due to the number of cancellations. After some time no refund was forthcoming and U Visit Russia was again contacted by email and we were advised that due to the volume of cancellations the refund would be credited to our credit card within 9 weeks. Nothing and again they were contacted by email but no response was ever received. No refund was ever received. Nothing!! The lesson is to beware of ever dealing with this company.

If you are in Kamchatka for few days, wish to extend your Itinerary or have 1-2 days left before you head back home, make your journey complete by taking a helicopter tour to one or few top Kamchatka attractions. This phenomenon is as beautiful as rare. Big geysers are located only in Iceland, in the Yellowstone park of the USA and New Zealand. But there is hardly a place in the world where such a variety of magnificent gushing springs can be found in such a small area as the Valley of Geysers of Kamchatka. If Geysers of Kamchatka are on the list of your destinations, do not delay your visit. Geysers are a delicate formation and easily extinguished by either human intervention, earthquakes or flooding.

Just north of Petropavlovsk, there are Koryaksky, Avachinsky and Kozhelsky volcanoes. The Avachinsky Volcano (2151 m) is one of the most active on the Kamchatka peninsula. It has erupted at least 16 times since 1737. A large explosive eruption occurred at Avachinsky in 1945. The most recent eruption was in 1991 and produced lava flows, a dome, and mudflows. Because of its proximity to the Petropavlovsk, it is definitely a great complementary to the city's look and one of the favored places for hiking, skiing and trekking among local residents.
