The political, scientific, historical, architectural and business center of Russia, Moscow displays the country's contrasts at their most extreme. The ancient and modern are juxtaposed side by side in this city of 10 million. Catch a metro from one of the ornate stations to see Red Square, the Kremlin, the nine domes of St. Basil's Cathedral, Lenin's Mausoleum, the KGB Museum and other symbols of Moscow's great and terrible past, then lighten up and shop Boulevard Ring or people watch in Pushkin Square.

Came her 3 years ago and parts of it were under renovation. This time it was almost fully renovated, very clean and tidy. Grand entrance through a huge arch, then a main wide park street with a massive Stalin style building featuring the former 16 soviet republics coat of arms. Behind this building is a beautiful golden fountain with 16 female figures (statues) each representing one of the republics. The park is very spacious and grand.

If you want to spend a while day in the history of USSR, VDNH is the place to go. You will be seeing the whole nations pavilions, experience the colossal size and impressive power of the tsar era and the Soviet era at the same time. The fountain, the vast area, attractions, tours, museums are great. Huge variety of usually Russian street food, and few slow dining restaurants cater your whole day. Free shuttle bus and paid tours are available in the premises.

You can taste authentic Armenian wines and cognacs and buy them (as well as cheese, sweets, jams and some other quality Armenian goods). You can also have a meal in the national cuisine restaurant. The atmosphere is relaxing. Wines are really very good and affordable, at least for tasting :) The pavillion is at the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy (VDNKh) behind the picturesque Peoples' Friendship fountain, which dates back to 1950s and features all the former Soviet republics.
