Our cruise ship was diverted to Praia da Vitoria and we really enjoyed this stop. We decided to start by hiking up to Miradouro Do Facho and the views over the town, the harbour and parts of the island were beautiful! The hike up the steep steps took us a while, but we took our time (maybe 30 minutes). Wear comfortable shoes; it makes the hike up those uneven steps so much easier! It was so totally worth it! We decided to hike down the road back into town and the landscape on the other side was breathtaking! Walking through farms with the wonderful views...it was great!

Angra has had three city halls. The first city hall had a small square in front. Later, the trade from India and the importance of the city led to the construction of a larger square and a new building with lateral staircases, a portico with columns, and a bell tower. The existing city hall was built in the nineteenth century and was inspired by the Oporto's old City Hall. It has one of the largest and grandiose great halls in the country.
Interesting Historic Building Free To Enter And walk around, we went upstairs to the two large rooms, very nice to see the architecture and paintings, you will spend around 10 to 15 minutes visiting the interior.

Well worth the effort to get to the top of the weather is clear. We trekked up the road using Google Maps. When he headed down, we used the easier walking path with steps and landings and beautiful plants and flowers that ended in the botanical gardens (Duke of Terceira’s Garden).

In 1980 the island had an earthquake that measure 7.6. 75% of the homes on the island were damaged or destroyed. The church of St. Sebastian was the only church left unscathed by the earthquake thus earning it the title "The Miracle Church". They also have discovered fresco paintings on the walls and are working at restoring them. Well worth a visit.
