This famous museum houses the largest collection of Japanese artifacts and artworks in the world. With over 100,000 pieces and room to display only 4,000, exhibits are rotated constantly
Located at the top of Ueno Park this is a very large museum and is worth a visit to get a real appreciation of Japanese history and culture. My time was limited so only got to see a portion of worth I wanted to see but would definitely return if back in Tokyo.

This is a fantastic looking gate on the way up to the Senso-ji temple. Huge lanterns adorn it and it is worth spending time looking at thethe guards which stand on either side protecting the temple.

The stores in this neighborhood sell kitchen equipment and paper supplies to the city's restaurants. Of note are the specialty plastic food items, which are placed in restaurant windows to show passersby what goodies are being served inside.
I stumbled on this district many years ago and still come back here regularly. I visit the same knife store to pick up good knives as the perfect gift for all occasions. There are too many places that are good sources for whatever you might need for food preparation and serving to list in this review. Just go and browse!

More than 400 stores line this busy market street that sits under the rail line between JR Ueno and Okachimachi stations. Shops sell seafood, clothing, dried food, sweets, and a range of other items.
This place is really nice and bustling, with many shops selling Japanese snacks which are perfect as gifts for friends and family back home. However the food options there were slightly limited for us travelling with a toddler, because the shops are really tiny and hard to fit 4 adults plus 1 child. Mostly bar tables and small stools etc.

every time I visit to Tokyo, I would like to visit Asakusa- Kaminarimon and Nakamise Shopping Street, it gives the feelings and ambience of being in Japan, with the tourist crowds, the shops selling various local snacks and a lot of restaurants around for you try something locals. a lot of local souvenirs can also buy there - do spend some time to explore

This is an amazing shopping street with the shops and signage designed like a street scene from the old old Edo. I love the Japanese man size characters that are scattered on the roof tops of the stores. It is not far from the Asakusa temple compound. These shops sell traditional Japanese crafts and souvenirs. It also has a lot of snack shops and eateries. Very touristy but enjoyable area to re-hydrate oneself and people watch.

Quieter and quaint looking town in Tokyo which you should not miss! It’s a small shopping street near to ueno area has very good food offered there. Didn’t get a chance to try their mains like ramen, sushi or beef as we have already tried most of it near Tokyo station. However, we managed to try their famous beef patty. The shop do not have any English words and hence I just followed the local Japanese ladies and selected the popular choice. My gosh, I instantly fell in love with the piping hot delicious beef patty ever! It taste extra good especially when the weather was so cold! Next, we tried that Takoyaki from a small shop in one of the lanes. Initially I thought they would be cold especially when it was already prepared and sitting on the trays. Lo and behold, I took my first bite and it scalded my mouth! The takoyaki balls were crispy on the outside and piping hot and soft in the inside. The sauce was awesome coupled with their usual condiments which made it the best I have ever tried! For something fun, the staircase to enter the shopping street from the train station resembles the staircase from the ‘Joker’ movie. If you are daring, you can mimic Joker with his dance moves down the stairs. I am sure some Japanese will find it interesting and start snapping pics of you. Could share this as that was what one lady did when my husband had decided to do the dance! Anyways, no one knows us. Just relax and have fun!
