National Memorial to the Heroes of the Heydrich Terror

This museum tells the story of brave Czech paratroopers who killed SS-Obergrupenführer Reinhard Heydrich in the Operation Anthropoid. Jan Kubiš and Josef Gabčík escaped to this church and the crypt under the church together with five more paratroopers and 20 days later they died here in battle against 700 Nazi soldiers.

This museum is a remembrance and memorial to the Czech resistance paratroopers, who during WWII, took part in a secret undercover plan to assassinate Hitler's favorite General, Reinhard Heydrich, head of the dreaded SS. These men, I believe there were seven, infiltrated behind the lines back into Prague where they hid out in the basement Crypt of the St Cyril Church. Eventually most most died during a ferocious fire-fight with the German army but they were responsible for Heydrich's death, and it's all a very interesting historical account of a little known event during WWII.

Just off the hustle and bustle of Wenceslas Square, is the Franciscan Garden with nice trees and green grassy areas. It’s a charming garden where you can sit amidst the greenery and enjoy the scenery. There is an excellent view from here of the Church of Our Lady of the Snows, which is located around the corner from here. You can best appreciate how high the vaults (112 feet) of this church are from the garden – quite impressive.

Republic Square (Namesti Republiky)

This square is situated on the site of the former moat between the Old and New Towns. The large open space near the medieval city centre inspired the construction of a number of significant buildings at the turn of the 20th century, such as the Municipal House (Obecní dům) near the Powder Tower (Prašná brána), the Hybernia House (Dům U Hybernů) and the Jiří z Poděbrad Barracks. A large part of the square is now a pedestrian zone connecting the two large shopping centres Palladium and Kotva.
