Tahkonportaat (Tahko Stairs) start next to Restaurant Tirol and they lead on the top of Tahko Hill. There are about one thousand steps there. So these are the longest wooden stairs in Finland. In summer this a nice place for exercise but also a very nice place to admire the scenery. It isn't too hard to climb these stairs. We did that during a heat wave when the temperature was +30 degrees Celsius. And actually we did that twice. If you turn right on the top and walk 500 meters, you come to the marvelous Panorama Bar. But if you turn left on the top and walk 500 meters, you come to the charming Restaurant Pehkubaari (Pehku). If you don't want to walk both up and down these stairs, you can take a panorama lift. It operates next to Panorama Bar. It is also possible to walk back to the village of Tahko from Pehkubaari along the path through Huutavanholma nature conservation area. Notice that in that case it is a good idea to have a map. Notice also that the path through Huutavanholma is partly quite rocky.

The market hall, representative of classism, was designed by J.V. Stromberg and the building was finished in 1926. The roof part or ”visor” of the market hall was built in the 1930s and it was designed by Eino Pitkanen. You can find local handicrafts as well as local meat in the market hall.
Kanttila was the former home and shop of author Minna Canth. Kanttila is located in the center of Kuopio, only few minute walk away from the Kuopio Marketplace. We are celebrating Kanttila's 200-year-old history this summer with Kanttila 200 years -exhibition which consist of three parts: Kanttila's building history, Katri Suonio's environmental artwork "What did you learn at school today?", and Tiina Haring and Mirkka Nyrhinen's augmented reality photography exhibition "Palasina koko Nainen - viestejä näkymättömältä vyöhykkeeltä". Kanttila is going to be renovated as a cultural centre, with multifunctional spaces and community activities, as well as to an interesting cultural travel destination. Minna Canth (1844-1897) was a writer, journalist, businesswoman, and a forerunner in education and equality. Kanttila was a place where sophistication was defended and equality was advanced.
