Wonderful guided tour today of Comuna 13 and El Centro including the Boltero sculptures. Fantastic story of urban gentrification and providing economic access where it otherwise would have been impossible.

This huge metal sculpture that forms a gigantic up-shooting arc into the sky, sits in front of the municipal building in government square. it is the creation of a famous Colombian sculptor, who is buried at the site. It purports to represent the history of the Colombian people. It is very, very dramatic and spellbinding. If you visit, you should see it as part of a city tour, .

More than 20 sculptures by Fernando Botero adorn this plaza in the center of old Medellin. The plaza itself is very easy to reach via the Medellin Metro (line A) to Parque Berrio. Each sculpture depicts people and figures in large, exaggerated volume, which can represent political criticism or humor. When you are in Medellin you do not want to miss this, as well as a visit to the adjacent Museum of Antioquia where the artist donated a very large portion of his private collection and works.

Not long after i wrote an earlier review of Parque El Poblado....it was closed by the city - as part of a citywide project to renovate and improve all city parks. The work has been finished and by early December, it was fully open again...and filled with the beautiful Christmas Lights they put up every year in the city parks. So if you have tried to see this beautiful and tranquil park in 2019 only to find it closed, go now...it is fully open again and nicer than ever! There are also art fairs under small tents put up in this park frequently during the year...along the Avenida Poblado side of the park - easily seen from the street. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the park !

With El Monumento a La Raza, which has the history depicted in its structure, in the square, this administrative centre is quite attractive. It took me a while to find it. You have to ask around. It is a must see attraction, although not many visitors were there.
