Part of the old town of Sozopol, these are ancient walls. There are many restaurants and bars along the walls.

We had been told about this place by our host. It’s an extraordinary site. During an excavation to build a factory the workers stumbled across an extensive Roman site. It turned out to have 3 different ages of population, dating back to 3000 years BC. Yes...FIVE THOUSAND YEARS OLD!!! There’s a brilliant and informative museum, with some incredible artefacts and then you are able to get close to the ongoing research and get a feel for the various buildings they are uncovering. We simply don’t get sites of this quality and size in the UK...so essentially placed in history and geography. Well worth the few pounds it cost for our entire family to visit.

Very interesting and mysterious place. The huge stones turned out to be here after a volcanic eruption, and the ancient Thracians only shaped them and used the place as a sanctuary. There is an unpaved road to the sanctuary itself, but it is better to park the car at the end of the paved road and walk about a kilometer and a half.

So blessed to have visited the monastery. We spent a bit if talking with one of the monks. Great learning experience. Wonderful opportunity to learn local history.
