The most populous (with 18 million people) and westernmost (bordering Belgium and the Netherlands) of Germany's federal states, North Rhine-Westphalia is one of Europe's most highly industrialized areas, with an impressive 30 cities of more than 100,000. Cologne is the district's biggest city, and the capital is Dusseldorf. Bonn, the former capital of West Germany, is also here. All three are part of the Rhine-Ruhr region of nearly 12 million people, one of Europe's biggest metropolitan areas.

We were looking for a romantic weekend away and found Forellenhof which is located in the middle of nowhere in the Sauerland in Germany. The location is very remote and quiet and rather beautiful. The hotel is clean, cosy and the service is excellent. The restaurant is just fabulous and the hosts are great. From here you can walk in the bison park not far away or visit Schmallenberg, the pearl of the Sauerland. Book a table in the restaurant - it is absolutely worth it. We will come again!

What a wonderful B&B. Stayed here on our way to France. The food is worth a stop regardless. Amazing food large portions. Great room, nice bed and pillow, quiet and clean. Breafast is very good and staff is super friendly. No problem to get an extra coffee to go to support our long drive.

Very basic and inexpensive hotel located on the edge of the woods in a rustic setting. This hotel is cheap. Please don't expect luxury. Remember to bring a towel. The owners are wonderful! If you're looking for value for money, you found it.

This hotel is at a great location, well suited for hiking in the area. Breakfast is great as well. We did not find the WLAN access and it was nowhere in the room to be seen. Room was nice, bathroom especially modern. I was not too happy about the price. For a hotel in a village in the middle of nowhere, it felt expensive.
