Riding tours on our wonderful Icelandic horses on the marvelous black sand beach of Víkurfjara. Our horses are suitable for riders from the age of 6 (10 years on our regular tours)! Our 1 hour tour is an easy-going ride suitable for inexperienced and advanced riders alike who want to enjoy the breathtaking surroundings of our beautiful village Vík, including a ride on the black sand beach towards the famous sea stacks Reynisdrangar. The tours are always fun and enjoyable and especially suited for beginners and people that have never ridden a horse before.
Myself (experienced rider) and boyfriend (complete novice) came here and both thoroughly enjoyed. Guides were super friendly and talked the group through, and chatted to us throughout. Dismounted and took pictures for us all (great pictures too!) we got to do the tölt too which was fun! Not a challenging ride so if you are looking for a full trek it’s probably not ideal, but if you’re looking for a fun and different way to see the black beaches then definitely do this!!

The tour includes an easy hike through breathtaking river canyon and two zip-line rides. The first one, which is the longer of the two, stretches 235 meters followed by a shorter line of 135 meters. The scenery below you, named Grafargil is incredibly beautiful and you will have the birds-eye view of it as you whiz down the zip-line.

We weren’t expecting much, after all a beach is a beach and so what if the sand is black not white or yellow? How wrong we were. It is an absolutely stunning site. High cliffs with strata running this way and the other, hexagonal pillars on the face of the next cliff, a large high cave, a roaring sea with waves crashing into the shore with plumes of spray, all contrasting with the black of the beach. The weather was rainy and windy but there were plenty of tourists. In our view they provided scale to the views, and didn’t detract from it

This is a beautiful black sand beach, but definitely NOT of the sunbathing/swimming kind. Here you can appreciate the powerful waves of the ocean, admire the soaring sea cliffs with sea birds, look for perfectly polished pebbles and rocks, and examine the stunning geology of the basalt columns. Do be careful of small children and heed the warning of the signs...the waves are like nothing you've ever experienced regardless of when you visit and you WILL be swept if you're not paying attention. NEVER turn your back to the ocean!
