The 10 Best Outdoor Activities in Redding, California (CA)

January 14, 2022 Mollie Coke

There's a variety of water sports in Redding, from whitewater rafting on the Sacramento River to waterskiing, swimming, fishing and sailing on Shasta Lake, one of four magnificent manmade lakes in this northeastern California town. When you're ready to dry off, there are also plenty of land-based activities, like camping or hiking in the national forests and parks, following walking trails through the 220-acre arboretum or spending time exploring two fascinating parks: Shasta State Historic Park and Turtle Bay Exploration Park. At Shasta State, you'll find the ghost town of Shasta City from the Gold Rush days, complete with restored stagecoach, barn and courthouse, with eerie reminders of where prisoners were kept and sometimes hanged. The ever-expanding 300-acre Turtle Bay Park houses the recently opened Turtle Bay Museum, with extraordinary hands-on exhibits focusing on the environment and an outstanding collection of American Indian baskets. The kids will love the park's Paul Bunyan's Forest Camp, which includes a playground, logging and ecology exhibits and the popular summer butterfly house, where the fragile winged creatures flit about and alight on welcoming visitors.

Pedego Electric Bikes Redding

We are young and old, but most importantly, we are riders. We ride to live and live to ride. We ride when the mailman won’t go out. We call ourselves adults but we act like children. Most importantly, we ride everything we sell as a lifestyle not because we are in the business. We believe that technology can help people. Electric Bicycles are the next big boom for an aging population and for anyone who desires an alternate form of transportation without gasoline. Our mission: To provide the finest quality electric bikes at the best value. To encourage cycling as a lifestyle. To provide opportunities to enjoy biking alone or with others. To offer the most professional and knowledgeable service. To understand the current needs of cyclists and provide products and solutions to meet those needs.

This was our first e-bike experience. We are a family of three. Middle aged parents and an 11 year old boy. We had a fantastic experience. We rented bikes for 2 hours and rode around the Sundial Bridge area. We had walked the loop and the climb up to the scenic view the day before. That gave a great perspective on what the e-bike can do. The staff was super friendly. Our son did not want to stop riding. I highly recommend this activity for a fun family event. The only negative is to be careful if riding around paths outside of the arboretum. We saw some drug use amongst some homeless under bridges, ect. We had no problems. Just not the best thing for kids to be exposed to.
