This is easily one of the best trails in Macau. It located at the southern end of Coloane, starting near Hac Sa Beach and making its way along the rocky coastline. The trail is only 1200 metres and flat with only a few steps to climb from time to time. There is a granite safeguard lining the trail as well, making it ultra safe even for children. You will see good ecology, amazing rock formations and sweeping landscape and sea views during this 45-60 minute hike. It could be shorter but you'll probably want to take quite a few stops for pictures. At the end of the trail, just catch a local bus back to the city. All buses that go north from here will take you back to the Cotai Strip where you can make your way wherever you need to go from there.

We stayed in one of the hotels belonging to the Cotai Strip (Conrad, see separate review). We loved the resorts, the indoor shopping plazas and promenades and the numerous casinos all added to the fun. And all the Sands owned properties (The Venetian, The Parisian and opposite Sands Cotai Central which includes the Conrad, Holiday Inn, St. Regis & Sheraton) are all interconnected by walkways. The latter 4 hotels will soon form what will be called "The Londoner Macau" and the Holiday Inn brand will disappear in favour of "The Londoner". Work is already underway although it's not (yet) easy to see how that can be a successful rebranding (maybe they'll add a Big Ben, Tower Bridge or something else somewhere). Back to the Present: especially the Venetian Canals shopping area on the 3rd floor is like a maze, we strolled around there twice and had trouble finding our way out again but we liked the Canals best of them all. But most of the shops are very upmarket - and expensive! But even window-shopping on its own is worth it because of the atmosphere. You'll find numerous branches of the same chains dotted across the different arcades, adding to the Maze feel (where are you?). I liked Cotai, including the Panda enclosures further South (separate review). I can see that the old historic part to the North of Cotai is very enjoyable and unique to people visiting from Asia, who have not been to Southern Europe, but for me Cotai was the highlight of Macau.

If you love nature and want to learn more about animals, then visit the Macau Zoo. It is located in the Seac Pai Van Park, where you will find a lot of greenery, picnic areas, and playgrounds. After having a morning picnic, I wandered around the park. It is designed as a giant fan occupying 3,000 m2 and its goal is to coexist with the nature surrounding it. Part of the Macau Zoo is the Giant Panda Pavilion, famous for being the home of giant pandas and red pandas – a species I didn’t know! The pavilion is surrounded by a 600 m2 yard, has 900 m2 of indoor exhibition rooms, and 2 parts of 33m2 for activities, all creating spectacular images never to be forgotten!
