The 10 Best Outdoor Activities in Estoril, Central Portugal

March 14, 2022 Merry Kessler

An exclusive resort town long recognized for attracting royalty, Estoril lies less than 20 miles west of Lisbon and is probably best known for its casino. One of Europe’s largest, it was the inspiration for the first of Ian Fleming’s James Bond books, "Casino Royale." Estoril’s mild winters and warm sunny summers make it a perfect beach town, with one of the nicest, Praia do Tamariz, lying right next to the casino. So famous has Estoril become that the local coast is now called Costa do Estoril.

Stayed a week at Palacio Estoril and did the 5-day green card programme with Daniel. The hotel was first class, classy and with friendly service. The golf lessons with Daniel were great as well. We learned a lot and reached our green card objective. Daniel is a very pleasant guy and instructor as well. We only played the Blue course. For us it was quite challenging, in particular because of the fast greens. That said, a very good learning experience. The booking experience with Kelly at Portugalgolf was excellent as well. We’d certainly consider returning to Estoril. Jyrki & Sonja

Golfe do Estoril

While in Cascais I played all the best golf courses around. Estoril is a legend. Like playing in the thirties with the Duke of Windsor..magnificent traditional golf course among pine trees, hilly with good small putting greens ( this was early December). Hired a caddy ( yes one of the few golf clubs where you can hire a caddy to pull your trolley and give you indications if you are not familiar with the place). And a lovely restaurant , had sardines with tomato on a bread, delicious after the first full round. And decided to do a second round same day, so 36 holes in the day. Yes we love golf!!
