Campeche(west)side of the Yucatan peninsula is on the Gulf of Mexico with extensive mangrove forests, creeks and small lakes. The predominant gamefish here is the Baby Tarpon. Campeche area is shallow and crystal clear. With few exceptions, that means most of the baby tarpon fishing is sight-fishing. The exceptions are fishing in the dark, casting into heavily shaded areas of the mangroves.

Our first visit was lovely so we repeated it twice more. It's easy to get there on the bus from Campeche. Look for Tec, Lerma on the windscreen. 7mxn for a half hour ride. 100 mxn by taxi takes about the same time. Playa Bonita costs 2mxn to go in. Many palapas to sit under. Sunbeds are cheap to rent. Beach service is excellent. (Thank you, Elian), and of course the sea is refreshing. It's a public beach and has super clean bathrooms and showers.
