Our family hiked the Pinnacle Trail and had an awesome time! The beginning of the trail (pictured below) was challenging yet manageable, and the pitch flattened out over time. The trail could be considered “steep” for 30% of the climb and moderate/ flat for the rest. Or course, the views are breathtaking and provide a perfect spot for pictures and picnics!

Julie and her husband own this fantastic Kayak company, and meeting them enhanced our Memorial Day weekend for sure! Once we decided the length of our rental, they gave us some directions to maximize our time on the lake, and get the most scenic views in our route. Furthermore, we were recommended an excellent hike and delicious dining options for the rest of our trip. I’m so thankful we found them, and we 100% plan on renting from them in the future.

These peaks can be approached singly or jointly, and the way you can approach them is variable. My husband and I recently hiked this trail, hiking first up Thomas Mountain then hiking over to Cat, and then back down. It is at least a 4-hour commitment, but I advise leaving plenty of time to take in the view at the top of Cat. The hike up Thomas mountain is not terribly exciting, as other reviewers have commented. It is essentially straight uphill the entire way, and thus the peak can be reached relatively quickly. At the top of Thomas you can see Lake George and the Adirondacks. There is a cabin there that hikers can use on a first-come-first-served basis, with a fire pit and latrine. From Thomas over to Cat is about 2.25 miles. This hike is much more interesting with a wide variety in terrain from walking thru fields of pine trees to a lot of up and down and rock scrambling. There aren't too many views during this part of the hike, but there is one lookout that the trail will direct you to. Cat Mountain provides gorgeous sweeping views of Lake George and the Adirondacks. Bring a lunch and water and sit and take it in. You won't want to come down. (Note: There are two other ways to get to Cat Mountain, one from the trailhead parking lot and also a much steeper trail (marked by red blazes). We hiked down the trail directly to the parking lot, which was fine, but I cannot comment about the steep trail.)
