Great stay at this resort - I learned to ski along with my two daughters in elementary school. We did a full day lesson and the instructors were fantastic. We parked our van and took the shuttle from the Jomo Kogen shinkansen station. The drive up to the resort was quite beautiful. The room had a really nice view of the mountains and the outdoor onsen was beautiful. The buffet dinner and breakfast were great; there is also an a la carte ramen restaurant.

We are couple. We stayed 1 night on 7/3 to 7/4 at dog friendly cottage (2Bed)with our dog. That dog run size is good. Also that room size is perfect for us. My doggy (kinda medium size) had very enjoyed this cottage because he can play and run in the room. He relaxed and he was sleeping here while we go to restaurant at this main hotel (very close, 2 min! oh, dog not allowed in the restaurant) They have small hiking course in the forest (it’s about take 40min)We tried hiking but it was evening already and we felt little scary so we couldn’t go around (next day, it was rainy..) we will try next time! We had breakfast and dinner. Both was buffet style. Everything is great! They have Japanese and American menu also chef makes roast beef and tempura. Very yummy! I had twice time each menu. Onsen was crowded by family at around 10 pm even though we chose this late time. So we returned and tried at 11:30 pm. Yes, no one there. I take a outside Onsen just only me. It was great time and I could see beautiful view with my calm time. I felt many families were staying here but we choose relax space, also we can go more calm place ( beautiful Forest, Falls, National Parks etc) so that’s why we love here! We felt comfortable and we could relaxed. Thank you guys see you next time we get back to Japan!

This is a large-scale hotel, service is not as good as the other hotel that I have stayed in Kusatsu. But I really love the size of its room and the amenities provided in the onsen. Although I booked the room with 10 tatami only, its really so spacious with 2 extra side rooms. Its also provides 2 toilet, so even a bigger family can find it very convenient.

My family stayed for one night at this hotel and I cannot believe how the hotel discriminates its guests. The hotel had groups of guests from China while we were there and the hotel had completely separated Japanese guests from the foreigners. Our plan included dinner and breakfast and when we went to the banquet for dinner on the first floor at the time that the hotel designated, I realized that the room was full of non-Japanese guests, mostly guests from China. On the next morning when we went to the same banquet on the first floor for breakfast, we were asked if we are Japanese and when I answered yes without thinking, we were told that the Japanese guests are to dine separately from the foreign guests on the second floor. When we got to the restaurant on the second floor, we realized that there was a clear separation between Japanese guests from foreign guests. The restaurant on the second floor for Japanese guests was fancier and even had nicer foods than the first floor. I'm not sure how such discrimination is even allowed at a hotel. I'm guessing that the hotel is doing this because of the current coronavirus outbreak but the hotel doesn't separate its guests from the fact whether or not if one has been to the affected area or not but just separates its guests from Japanese to non-Japanese guests. I have personally lived in Japan for more than 10 years and have never been to any of the affected areas in my entire life but it didn't matter. I'm shocked at the fact the hotel openly discriminates its guests like this and would like to advise anyone considering this hotel to think twice before you visit. The hotel itself isn't even worth its price and most of the foods that are served are not even fresh. But nothing tops its discriminating behavior.

Stayed at the Manza Prince Hotel for 1 night and subsequently at the Tsumagoi Prince for the next. I have to say that comparing the 2, the latter is definitely better in most aspects. Rooms at the Tsumagoi Prince are spacious by Japanese standards and despite the age, they are still very well kept. The open air onsen is quite basic that faces the mountains which should look really nice during the winter. This is perhaps the only aspect that can not compare with the Manza Prince which has multiple open air onsens. What differentiates the hotel though is the service which I felt was over and above the already great typical Japanese service. I really have to commend the lady at the front desk. Unfortunately we didn’t get her name but she made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived with her warm greetings and infectious laughter. We had arrived early and she tried her best to get us an early check in, taking the time to explain the hotel facilities and what we can do. She greeted us with the same hospitality when we checked out. Highly recommend anybody who has sometime to relax in the Karuizawa area to pay a visit there, especially for golfers as the golf course is just next door. Note: the hotel is 1 hr from Karuizawa station and there are complimentary shuttle services there daily.

The hotel is very well maintained and service level is impeccable. Hotel staff speak very limited English so communication might be a challenge. Not surprise to find that hotel guests are mostly Japanese people. Our room was traditional Japanese style (ryokan). It was a smoking room but when we told the hotel we don't smoke, they deodorised the room prior to our arrival. Free wifi is only available in the reception area. We had the Japanese kaiseki dinner and it was quite a spread. Onsen was also good - there is an indoor and outdoor bath. Not sure about other rooms but mine did not have a shower so we had to wash up at the communal baths in the onsen area - not a problem for us as we enjoy onsens. Hotel also provides ski rentals and free shuttle services to the ski resort and bus terminal. A good stay!

I recently stayed for 2 nights with my wife and 2 children (2.5 and 5 years old). The free shuttle bus from Karuizawa station took 40 minutes and is a pleasant drive up the mountain. Check in was quick and easy, my wife is Japanese and I speak some but some staff there it seems can speak English if needed. We stayed in a duplex room which was well equipped with toys in good condition. The upstairs bedroom is pretty quiet and I slept well, especially on the 2nd night. The beds are firm but that is OK with me. Typical small unit bathroom but OK, I did use the shower one morning before breakfast which was a bit tricky to get a good temperature, however the hotel onsen public bath is very good so it's better to use that anyway, if you don't mind getting naked with other people. The only thing I would say about the room is that there is nothing to sit on in the living room part, I accept that most of the guests are probably quite used to sitting on floors but even one chair would be nice. The room had a new air conditioner and was plenty warm enough. The food was pretty good for buffet style with plenty of choice and there were 3 restaurants to choose from, dinner styles being westernish, Chinesey and Japanese, with efficient service and all-you-can-drink options. The kids fun park is a 600 meter walk away or there is a shuttle bus running back n forth every 30 minutes. The big wheel and other mechanical rides are closed through winter but there are plenty of branded toy playrooms full of things to play with and there was a small toboggan slope, snow play area, adventure maze and bouncy castle, well enough to spend happy hours with. There is also a playroom in the hotel for young children. I didn't use it this time but there is a free shuttle bus to a ski area. If you have young children they will love this place and both myself and wife thoroughly enjoyed ourselves too, so much so that I think we will go back for a long weekend in February, I think this place is good value for a family get away.

This is a large htel located a bit outside of the main area of Shima onsen. Shima onsen itself is a quiet valley and besides onsen hotels there aren't many places to visit as a foreign tourist. But hot spring, gorgeous dinner buffet and breakfast were very enjoyable. The hotel is old and the facilities are modest. The service personnels are polite, friendly and helpful. One must reserve the room with dinner because there are practically nothing around this hotel.
