A coastal resort complete with hot springs, Atami has been a favorite vacation spot for Tokyoites dating back to Tokugawa Ieyasu. Though the city's main draws are its beach boardwalk and spas, visitors can take in some history staying in early 20th-century private villas converted to inns and catching the afternoon Geisha dance performance at Geigi Kenban.

I did not sleep in this place but I actually went to the hotspring several times. It has, indeed, a very nice natural onsen with inside and outside (hot and cold) bathtubs and sauna. It takes 15-20 minutes to arrive there from the train station on foot, but it is nice to have a walk before and after going into the water.

We enjoyed the May fireworks on a Saturday night from our private onsen-bath-patio deck chairs. Our set dinner and breakfast courses were excellent. We added a “Wine Pairing Experience” to our dinner course. Tell them of food allergies, if any.

My wife and I came down for a night away from Tokyo and loved this place. Excellent service, great location up on the hill an easy walk from town but with a view overlooking Atami and the ocean. Our room was massive and had two en suite baths, one inside and one out. Very comfortable and cozy, and the rooftop onsen for all guests was also great. I'd recommend springing for one of the better rooms to get a good view, and don't plan on leaving the hotel.

Since it's tough to find a convenient hotel by the sea with decent prices on a high season, this one was ok. Cost us less than pension but included onsen and all you can eat and drink service. The buffet style food was not excellent but quite various. Better come earlier to avoid crowds of guests and provide yourself with table. The bath was comparatively nice with an outdoor one too. The only minus I'd remember - wi-fi could be used only in the lobby and it wasn't mentioned in hotel's pamphlets.

Our Japanese friend put us up at this hotel near his home in Atami. It is in a beautiful location. We appeared to be the only non-Japanese there, and the staff's English was limited. Nevertheless we were warmly welcomed. Our spacious room on the 5th floor had a living room, large bath, and both Western-style beds and Japanese tatami mat sleeping area. The dinner and breakfast buffets were large and varied. As a vegetarian, my choices were limited but I managed. My husband enjoyed the cooked-to-order beef. The highlight was the onsen--Japanese communal baths. There are separate facilities for men and women with both indoor and outdoor baths. The outdoor women's bath looked out on a lovely hillside and was beautifully lit at night. Wifi was available in a small area on the first floor, not in the rooms.

Our room lightings were not so good so everything looks old and food did not look appetizing. A small garden in front of our room on the third floor had so many tall weeds growing and disappointing. That’s why I gave three stars. Dinner and breakfast were served on time in our room and futon beds were made on time as well. Our server was very pleasant and accommodating. Hot spring bath was very good. I did not go to outdoor hot spring bath, but it looked good. It is located on a hill. We took a taxi from Yumoto JR station and paid 1,000 yen. It may be too far and too hilly to walk from the train station. We received a gift to stay this hotel but I think we got a lower end of accommodation and meal set (estimated one night stay 20,000 yen per room for two people and two meals each) so if you paid more, it may be more pleasant stay there. Over all it was average good with three stars for our stay.

Visited and stayed in this ryokan because of the fireworks in August 2017 - the hotel costs double compared to normal days. If not for the fantastic view from the balcony for the fireworks - this hotel would be a disappointment - very old ryokan and even the onsen is quite old looking. There is a fish tank inside the onsen and I feel sad for the fishes swimming inside- the tank looks as old as the ryokan. Dinner and breakfast was served in the room - the food is not the best compared to the other ryokans I have stayed in. However, this ryokan is convenient in terms of location - there is family mart and plenty of restaurants nearby - Denny's restaurant is just downstairs the hotel on the right hand side. Do visit the Atami rope way and there is apparently a sex museum at the top of the rope way and the castle is nearby too. Generally I find Atami a little too commercialized for my liking given the proximity to Tokyo and it gets a little too crowded. Do check out newer properties like hotel micuras and livemax if you plan to stay in Atami. They are also close to the sun beach.
