Kiev Observatory of Taras Shevchenko University is the oldest in Ukraine, founded almost 170 years ago. The observatory was established in 1845; the tower with a telescope was built in 1860.The observatory has a museum that houses a collection of various old astronomical instruments. There are two types of excursions held there - with star gazing and without. Since Kyiv Astronomical Observatory is an acting scientific establishments, visits there are done by preliminary arrangements only, especially for the star-gazing tours.
