North Riding Hotel

Reviewed By teffers - Lichfield, United Kingdom

Located a short walk out of the centre of Scarborough, near the North Bay (and very handy for the cricket ground), this is a great place for fans of real ale to visit. The pub itself is nicely `old-fashioned` with lots of wood panels, old photo's on the walls along with pieces of memorabilia. They serve a great range of real ales, some of which are brewed by the `North Riding` brewery (run by the landlord, i believe). After completing the Covid precautions, I settled in for a very pleasant afternoon of good ales - and then returned a few more times during my stay :)

Blacksmith Arms Cloughton

Reviewed By horse-mad-girl - East Grinstead, United Kingdom

Stayed for 4 nights. Had a double room in one of the outside rooms. It was a small room but had everything we needed and a very comfortable bed and full size bathroom with bath and shower over. Quite old fashioned but absolutely spotlessly clean both in our room and in the main pub. Breakfast was good with lots of choice and good quality ingredients. We ate there every evening and the food was excellent with good choices - favourites were the fresh Whitby Scampi and sea bass but everything was tasty and excellent. There was a short walk from the Inn that took you out to the old railway track and onto the Cleveland Way with views over the Robins Hood Bay. A great base for exploring both the seaside resorts and for easy access onto the North Yorkshire Moors. Our first visit to the area and I hope not our last - would definitely go back to Blacksmith - but would try and book earlier so we could get a four poster bed in the main building. Many thanks to Tony and his team for making us so welcome and for providing excellent service in a difficult time.

Great weekend in Scarborough due in no small part to the Stumble Inn. Smiley, happy staff welcomed us on two consecutive nights, serving superb ales and scrumpy. The pub locals, led by Big Jim, made us feel welcome and we enjoyed a good laugh with all. Small, spotlessly clean, great beer, absolutely recommended.

Hole In The Wall

Reviewed By 203trevb - Castleford, United Kingdom

Whilst on a trip to Scarborough, my wife and I called in at The Hole in the Wall. We received a warm welcome from both Becky and Mark, (who was lighting the real fire). There was a great selection of draught and bottled beers/lagers etc, with very reasonable prices. The pub itself is situated on two levels, with the upper being a comfortable lounge area. The lower room also has a lounge area, toilets, and a selection of quiz/fruit machines, as well as a 1980's style games console. On Monday evenings there is normally an open Mike night. The place is dog friendly, and has a "secret beer garden" for the better weather. Although food is not regularly available, (or wasn't during our visit), it would appear snacks are sold at weekends and during the season. A great place to chill out with a great atmosphere, good beer, (both cask and keg), a warm welcome from the staff, as well as a fantastic jukebox! We will definitely be back.
