Archive Wine Bar is a Bar, Bottle Shop & Deli, allowing you to drop in for a glass of wine and enjoy a cheese or charcuterie platter. Archive offers over 100 wines by the glass using the Coravin & Perlage systems as well as a carefully curated selection of craft beers and whiskies from hard to find distilleries. We have back vintages from small wineries available in 75ml & 150ml pours.
This wine bar is in an unprepossessing part of the city ,way south of the CBD but worth the drive, taxi or walk. It is partly owned by the people from Lethbridge wines hence an excellent selection of their wines but these are far outweighed by a wide selection from local and international sources. Many wines are available by 70cl or 150 cl measures so one can taste a selection. The Coravin system used ensures that all are fresh. The food menu is compact but well suits the focus of the bar. We had an excellent Gorgonzola melt, a chorizo salad and a few other bits and enjoyed all. I was able to enjoy two wines from Kernoer and my wife really liked her 2016 Lethbridge Indra. And the source if the name, the inners’ daughter was serving. Quite an excellent wine bar and one which gives most city examples a case of embarrassment.

Cellar door, restaurant and winery in a beautifully restored 1870s bluestone building on the banks of the Barwon River. The building is part of the Fyansford Paper Mill arts precinct. Enjoy tasting premium wines, buy a glass or two to enjoy with a delicious lunch, or buy a bottle (or few) to drink later. We have been awarded the Best Value Winery in Australia (James Halliday Wine Companion 2019), the Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine 2018 & 2019 Star Cellar Door, and a National Trust Heritage Award for the renovation of the nationally-listed historic building.
We booked a late lunch over the Easter weekend and prepaid for a 5-course, set tasting menu (I believe pre-payment isn’t usually required, however it was required during the Easter weekend). We arrived 15 minutes early for our allocated seating time, and were subsequently seated at a bar table. Whilst waiting for our table, we were recommended the Provenance Sparkling Shiraz which was one of the best sparkling shirazes we've tasted in a long time. Much lighter than a pinot noir, soft and sparkling with a beautiful bouquet....recommend trying if you enjoy a sparkling Shiraz, or even if you don’t! The set menu we enjoyed over lunch consisted of freshly baked bread served with cultured butter, confit duck, slow cooked lamb shoulder, kangaroo tartare on a nori crisp (not necessarily in that order), including a shaved salad with apple and finished with an alternative drop of chocolate, buttermilk icecream, and a eucalyptus meringue, berries and elderflower cream. I can't express enough how beautifully made and plated all courses were. This was a taste sensation, incredibly appetising, surprisingly quite filing, and all dietary requirements were met without any issues at all. We did encounter some ‘hiccups’ (pardon the pun), prior to lunch and at the end of lunch, and without going into details, they were rectified. Despite that, we would definitely return to Provenance Winery; it is without a doubt, outstanding in our eyes.

Look for the sign above your head and don’t be scared about the wooden ‘mature aged’ stairs but once thru the wooden door, this bar oozes comfort and style. There is an extensive spirit, cocktail list and sitting around the ‘clawed’ bathtub table was comfortable but interesting. Staff were attentive and quick to deliver our orders. This is a very pleasant location away from the usual locations in Geelong CBD.
