The 10 Best Nightlife in Brooklyn, New York (NY)

October 22, 2021 Esmeralda Fenner

It seems like most folks have a grandmother, great-uncle or some other distant relative that used to live in Brooklyn, or perhaps a friend that lives there now. In the early 1900s, it was a mecca for immigrants arriving via Ellis Island. A hundred years later, young professionals and artists left pricey Manhattan digs for Brooklyn's cheaper and more expansive space. Neighborhoods like Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope, which had fallen into disrepair over the years, were restored and reborn as funky enclaves. Walk or bike over the historic Brooklyn Bridge (or ride the subway) to Brooklyn Heights for a stroll along the Promenade and breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline. Meander through Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens for a taste of nature in the urban wilds. Catch a performance at the world-famous Brooklyn Academy of Music. From the delicious Italian restaurants of Bensonhurst to the Irish bars that line the avenues of Bay Ridge, from the hotdogs and rollercoasters of Coney Island to the bagels and handball courts of Greenpoint, Brooklyn is a state of mind as well as a dynamic community. Discover why, no matter where people move on to, they remain Brooklynites at heart.

BrownstoneJazz

Discover a Jazz Fest and Fish Fry at a Historical Landmarked Brooklyn Brownstone. "REMEMBERING WHEN" a celebration of music lived in the heart of Brooklyn's Bed-Stuy neighborhood. Enjoy a live jazz concert performed in an intimate setting with a fish fry, and open-mic session. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BrownstoneJAZZ is a naturally acoustic sound LIVING ROOM up close for a personal touch Featured in a Brooklyn Historic Bedford Stuyvesant 19th Century Victorian Built Townhouse Bed and Breakfast called Sankofa Aban From this quiet friendly tree lined block, the amazing sound of Authentic Jazz comes alive within a parlor, called The Room, typically used for small gatherings, back in the day. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What to expect- A continual effort to present an affordable evening where only today's best Jazz Artists gather to concert in a classic 19th c.style Townhouse, located in the Historical Landmark Gateway of Bedford Stuyvesant's tree-lined community. Many have created different, more up to date ways of keeping jazz alive than this venue. Only, BSJazz keeps jazz alive in a room which has kept a more back in the day style. Enjoy being entertained by great american jazz in a socially diverse, cultured way. The sound of music radiates off the 1880s wooded areas, which allows for natural acoustic listening, considered unusual in these times. The walls and floors are shared by original style wooden and brass instruments played by amazing artists. By sitting in the middle of this area, the musical feel is haunting in the very intimate building. The beautiful design of BrownstoneJAZZ is an extremely smaller version of New York's larger fascinating Music Halls, but just as effective by leaving you astounded. There's a time in the evening when the audience can become a part of the entertainment, and perform with World Class Musicians. The wonderful talent that performs during that time makes it more than an OPEN MIC. The performers in many cases are wonderful artist their selves. Often enough, they have gained showcasing performances, at BrownstoneJAZZ. BrownstoneJAZZ is all about the music. Yet, there must be a break during the festival, to refresh the musicians and audience with a home cooked meal, prepared by the evening hostess DebbieMc. A delicious buffet of our Famous Fried Fish, Slaw and Corn Bread, keeps within another Jazz tradition of a late night Fish Fry. Back in the day you found that the best Jazz and fish fries were found in community houses. Once again after the fish fry seats are filled, and the night continues till the enjoyment of the last note has played. Then the audience many times raise to their feet in applauds, and reluctantly descend from what we like to call 'THE ROOM'. Or, as Lester Holt called it "THE HOUSE OF JAZZ" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Special all inclusive Group JazzTours Available upon request for 15-30 people.)

My wife and I like to spend a couple days checking the town, trying the beers and spirits and of course sampling the foods everywhere we go for a rock show. We stopped at Barcade just because it looked really interesting. What a place!! Great people and drinks. Had some fantastic beers (great selection of craft beers) and played PacMan for the first time since I was 15. I didnt do so well. Bar manager was great to chat with about the town and gave us some awesome places to try during our Bang Bang trip.
