The 10 Best Nightlife in Birmingham, England

November 3, 2021 Vivienne Hutton

The geographical heart of England, Birmingham started life as a sixth- century Anglo-Saxon village. Today, much of this city of over a million dates back to post-WWII redevelopment in the 1950s and 60s. Cutting edge museums and galleries, innovative theaters and excellent shopping have contributed to Birmingham's appeal as a weekend break destination. Don't miss the hopping bars and cafes of Gas Street Basin or the fascinating creatures at the National Sea Life Centre.

Been here several times and will certainly return. Fabulous little tea room, done out in forties style, chockablock full of old photos and fascinating memorabilia. The staff are wonderful, very friendly and attentive, and the food is delicious. Greeted by a pianist playing old sings when we arrived, which was a lovely additional treat. Thoroughly recommend!

Love this place so much. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming. They will always stop for a chat and know how to look after people. Menu is burgers and pizza, which is just perfect. Great atmosphere, fab bands and tunes! This is our go to place when we’re out because you always feel so looked after.

Bar Ikigai

Independent cocktail bar in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter with a focus on seasonal Japanese ingredients, minimalist design and a chilled atmosphere.

Having lost the amazing 18/81 back in February we were on the lookout for another purveyor of cocktail magic. We found it! Amazing and innovative flavours in simply presented strong cocktails - as they should be! Japanese influenced and delicious (If you want fruity “fun” colourful cocktails full of Ice, sparklers, umbrellas and little alcohol, you’ll need to find somewhere else) Having visited the location before when it’s previous tenants (Vanguard) were there, I have to say the decor and ambience is even better. It feels bigger and more sophisticated. A beautiful place to be. I was impressed that the staff explained the cocktails like in a good restaurant. That’s what I’d expect from a high end cocktail bar. Lovely staff too. Thanks for a lovely evening Ikigai. Stay strong over lockdown 2.0 because we will be back.

The Prince of Wales Moseley

This is a great pub just on the edge of the main street in moseley. It looks, at first glance, like an old fashioned boozer, albeit one which is very nicely presented, with a nice warm feel to it. And in many ways kit is, and this is not a criticism. They decor is traditional, with some great filing work on the floor and the walls. However, it is much more than that, g through to the back and you will find a lovely snug (as like the rest of the indoors, though, it is not big, so space is sometimes scarce). Throughout, the beer is well kept and their cocktails very good. the staff are always helpful and polite. Go back further though and you will find the huge garden, that has a cocktail bar, a very large covered seating area, and is one of the big reasons the PoW is a well-known and loved Birmingham venue, particularly in the summer, where there are often cultural events and shows. It is very popular, and a recommended visit (just don't tell eveyone, it can be packed as it is!)

This was a sophisticated hen party for my art deco- mad daughter - it was a perfect experience from start to finish. Service throughout was exceptional; our phenomenal afternoon tea went on well into the early evening, then we enjoyed wonderful cocktails. We had intended to have bar snacks later but we were all too full. We demolished the gorgeous biscuits from my daughters minibar instead. The bar snacks will have to wait for a future visit - which is a MUST! Bedrooms were fabulous My only disappointment was that the pillows are quite hard, but I found out afterwards that there were more "fluffy" pillows in the wardrobe but hadn't been aware of this. Also I would have liked a magnifying mirror in the bathroom. Breakfast was divine... really sad to leave, I'm having afternoon tea at the Ritz later next month and I can't imagine it will be half as good as the afternoon tea experienced here.
