You can eat very well—and very cheaply—in Taipei. The restaurants may not look posh, but the quality of the food is superlative. And there’s a huge variety of restaurants—in addition to local Taiwanese specialties, you’ll find regional cuisines from all over China, as well as great Indian, Japanese and even Italian options. Just make sure to leave some room for snacks—street-vendor food here is addictive.

Ernest Hemingway famously advised “If you want to know about a culture, spend a night in its bars.” Our Drink Like a Local tour offers visitor the chance to do exactly this. Don’t expect to visit fancy clubs or the latest trendy nightspot on this tour (we’ve got another one for that). On our DLAL tour, you’ll head to three watering holes known mostly to locals, including a rock bar with good music and great craft beer, a semi-hidden pub located above a traditional Chinese medicine shop and a second-floor pub known for its excellent cocktails and pan-fried dumplings. We’ll then have a tipsy stroll around the neighborhood and soak in the local ambiance (and maybe another drink) before heading to the Shida neighborhood for fried chicken and beer in the park.
Inclusions: An English speaking guide and experienced nightlife curator, Complimentary drink at each bar, Snacks
Exclusions: Gratuity
Taiwan is a small island with lots to see. Many people would be inclined to hire a car and drive themselves, but this is not always a good idea in Taiwan. Taiwan is mountainous, it's topography is rarely easy to follow. Therefore, arranging a tour is worth considering. Reading the reviews we were a bit reluctant to book this tour. But it turned out to be a great day! The scenery is amazing and Josephine adequately led the group from one place to another. If you like to spend a lot of time in one place, than this is not the tour for you because you don't get an awful lot of time at the different spots. But if you're looking for a tour in which you want to see many things in one day, then we would definitely recommend it. Josephine was very friendly and was willing to explain a lot. Everything was perfectly organized and the lunch was amazing.
