Santiago, who is known for his cheeky antics, was my friendly alpaca companion for today's walk. The Alpaca Trek, lead by enthusiastic, entertaining and down-to-earth members of the Holly Hagg Community Farm, has been one of my favourite and unique experiences this year. It was a lovely route and I enjoyed having Santiago's company, despite him walking me round in circles when I got his food out and when he wanted to jump in the bushes and eat them at many points throughout the walk. These antics made the walk interesting and gave us something laugh about. It may have been the first time he had seen sheep too, which was adorable! Santiago allowed me to stroke his back, neck and head - he was so soft and cuddly! The volunteers leading the trek were also very conscientious of social distancing guidelines and they followed those 'extra measures' to make sure everything was safe and healthy. I felt very comfortable with the set up and would definitely go again soon!

Thornberry Animal Sanctuary is an animal rescue centre in South Yorkshire. As well as adopting animals (horses, dogs, cats, rabbits and more) we have a number of things you can do here. Dog lovers can take our dogs out for a walk in the local area, cat lovers can visit and groom the cats and children can see the rabbits and other small animals. We also have two large jumble barns on site full of bric-a-brac, furniture, clothes and a book shop which is open Friday - Sunday 11am-3pm. We also have a cafe open at weekends 11am-3pm.

A lovely little wood tucked away on the hillside. Favourite time of year is spring when there is a beautiful carpet of bluebells and the variety and volume of birdsong is impressive, but every season has its interests. Always wildlife to see including foxes, squirrels and deer. I visit at least weekly for a short walk or to get through to graves park to which it is connected.

Starting from malin bridge enter the nature trail from the mouse hole and follow it passed an old mill pond to where you can split and go left by the next dam or right and cross the stepping stones, then onto rivelin park and across the bridge and follow the path to the s bends, cross the road and continue along the path passing old mill ponds and structures from an industry long gone, keep going and eventually you’ll come to the old post office which is the end of the nature trail, about 3-4 miles from here you’ve endless choices of where to go Hope this helps anyone interested Not suitable for infirm, pushchairs or wheelchairs in places due to the ground conditions, PS after heavy rain the river does cover the stones, don’t try an be a hero please and be safe

I came here with my mum on the 26th August (bank holiday) and when we arrived there was a long queue as you would expect on a bank holiday! They are very organised getting people in! When we got in we went to see the lions first (I brought my camera with me and took lots of pictures of all the animals????) we saw 2 of the 9 lions but I don’t blame them for staying out of the sun! They were so cute! There is a information board telling you about the lions! After this we saw the polar bears and tigers! Then we went to get lunch! We went to ¡Caramba! And we got 2 kids meals I got the chicken nugget meal and my mum got the vegan nugget meal, both were served with potato wedges and a drink of your choice! They were very nice!! After lunch we saw the lemurs, wallaby’s , painted dogs, baboons etc and all of which were adorable!! :) There is lots of things to see and do here and I will definitely be returning and I would recommend to any animal lovers, like myself!!???????? (my photos won’t upload :( so here is the one photo I took on my phone of the camels ???? but they were adorable!)

Nature paths suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs will wind you around a stunning, safe wetland habitat littered with pockets of woodland and wildflower meadows, and a cracking cafe is a great place for you recharge with friends. Hides allow you and your family to get up close and personal with birds such as woodpeckers and kingfishers and during your wander you may also encounter mammals such as roe deer and hedgehogs. The meadows during summer are full of butterflies on the wing in comparison to a snow laden winter where you may be lucky enough to spot our overwintering bitterns - this globally threatened species a real highlight to see for any wildlife watcher. Please note that we close over the Christmas period, check our website for details. We will be open every other day of the year (weather permitting) please see are website for further details. Unfortunately dogs, horses, bike, scooters etc are unfortunately not permitted on site.
Always wanted to see a murmuration of starlings, and when we heard it happened here we couldn't wait to go back to this wonderful nature reserve and see it. As always the welcome was friendly, the food in the new cafe great; especially the thrice cooked chips, which are to die for. But the place is the thing. A lovely view over the first lake, sunset over the huge scrapes with thousands of birds. Birds of prey flying over the murmuration. a range of walks with lots to see. Knowledgeable staff. A very tempting little shop. The lot.

Parking is limited nearby the Boat Inn but worth trying to get a place. Great walk along the side of the River Don past three hides to watch the birds on the flash which is not visible from the path. Towards the end you can take a path back to where you started with great views of the flash
