Lower Saxony (German: Niedersachsen [ˈniːdɐzaksn̩], Low German: Neddersassen) is a German state (Land) situated in northwestern Germany. It is the second largest state by land area, with 47,624 square kilometres (18,388 sq mi), and fourth largest in population (7.9 million) among the sixteen Länder federated as the Federal Republic of Germany. In rural areas Northern Low Saxon, a dialect of Low German, and Saterland Frisian, a variety of the Frisian language, are still spoken, but the number of speakers is declining.

Im Otter-Zentrum gibt es weit mehr als Fischotter zu sehen. In den großräumigen Gehegen kann man seine nächsten Verwandten wie den Dachs, den Hermelin und den Steinmarder ebenso beobachten wie den Otterhund, eine vom Aussterben bedrohte Hunderasse. Nicht nur die Lebensräume der Marder, in die man sich direkt hineinbegibt, sondern auch die zahlreichen Erlebnisspiele laden zum Erkunden ein. Ein drei Kilometer langes Wegenetz, welches auch für Rollstuhlfahrer geeignet ist, führt durch immer neue Lebensraumabschnitte mit Hecken, Bächen, Teichen, Wiesen, Äckern, Heide und einem über 100-jährigen Wald. Zudem vermitteln die 100 Meter lange Erlebnisbrücke über den Isenhagener See und der Wasserspielpfad ganz neue Einblicke in den Lebensraum Wasser. Unterwegs treffen Brückengänger auf einen Fußtastpfad oder auf ein Unterwasser-Fernrohr. Rund 60 Sonderveranstaltungen ergänzen das Angebot.
