As home to majestic mountains, opulent palaces, and high culture, Austria's attractions are classically sumptuous and enduring. But beyond the waltzes, the strudels, the alpine summits, and Habsburg architecture, its modern cities are proof of just how easily Austria combines the contemporary with the historic.

After a disappointing short and unfriendly tour in the inner part of the castle the bird show came as an unexpected great experience one doesn't see often! You can visit the numerous aviaries before or after the show as in a zoo and it is included in the ticket price! The show itself is impressive and is led professionally and with lovely sence of humour in German. If you don't speak German you will still not be disappointed as the show is anyway a great experience and it is very clear what is going on! The view from the open air "theatre" is amazing and it is used as a background of the show. Our children and elderly family members enjoyed the show equally and we went twice during our stay in Vienna because the kids wanted to visit again! In not so good whether the show is still performed and every visitor is given on request a blanket, umbrella and a a dry seat cover- I found that very thoughtful. I would visit again and again in good or bad weather as it is very interesting to observe how birds react differently according to weather conditions! What a great fun! Thank you for the great experience!

This Gletscherweg is an amazing round trip from the bottom of the Innergschloss valley, going through the forrest alongside a big powerfull waterfall up to some lakes and eventually to boulders and the glacier, to then return on the other side back to the valley. To get to this hike, you can park (or get a bus to the parking area) at Matreier Taurnhaus and then either walk up to Innergschloss (3 hours return) or take a taxi or carriage to Innergschloss. They go all the time in the summer, so no need to make a reservation. Then once up at Innergschloss, you hike about 25 minutes through a flat valley to the start of the loop, which is 4 hours back to the valley. So in total, around 5 hours from the place you can get to with public transport, or around 8 hours from the Matreier Taurnhaus. You can hike very close to the glacier and the views are amazing there! The last bit you have to be a bit more steady on your feet as there is some clambering up boulders, but kids were doing it too, so take it easy and you will be fine.

I always very much enjoy coming to those lakes. They are surrounded by mountains and are simply a beautiful sight in general. There is an easy trail that leads around both lakes (~7km) but you can also just walk around the first lake as well (~3km). The parking space is also a starting point for many beautiful and great hikes and for me personally it's a great place to do a hike and then return back to the lake to take a swim and cool myself off a bit. Also just for swimming I very much like it here. The water quality is great and the temperature is quite refreshing though not too cold; at least for my taste. I can definitely recommend to come there.

When staying in the area, a visit to the wildpark is a must for families, children - but also nature lovers! A very large, beautifully designed wildpark. Most animals have large spaces to be kept appropriately. The places are also adapted to the living conditions of the animals. Due to the size and variety of animals, I recommend planning half a day. There are deer, elk, ibex, raccoons, beavers ... Some animals, like the lynx, are difficult to spot in their enclosures. It takes time for that. But the animals feel more comfortable than in the zoo. You can feed different animals. You can buy the food at the entrance at the cash register. It's worth it and there are nice photos. The food for the fish must be purchased separately. You can buy this from vending machines at the respective ponds. In the end there is a small petting zoo for the little ones. A great wildpark that is definitely worth it for families! And admission - affordable. Can be combined well with the Almsee.
