Booked a WONDERFUL 3 bedroom cabin on the lake front. New cabin, well more like a modern house and well equipped with everything. Canoe's available if you had your own paddle.

The Darling River Run is a 730 kilometre drive that follows Australia’s Darling River from the outback town of Walgett in north-western NSW to Wentworth and junction of the Murray River near Mildura. It’s an amazing journey through isolated outback towns that were once thriving river ports. It is the third longest river in Australia. Standing alongside it... it's very like the Murray River to look at. You simply have to know where you are and which river you are standing next to. The rivers do converge. There is an abundance of birdlife to watch... the area is very serene. The skies are brass and the plains are bare, Death and ruin are everywhere; And all that is left of the last year's flood Is a sickly stream on the grey-black mud; The salt-springs bubble and the quagmires quiver, And this is the dirge of the Darling River. — Henry Lawson

Perry Sandhills are dramatic, subtle and stunning. Patterns and shadows cast from flora, the dunes ripple and have striking hard edge lines. Look down and follow the tracks of native animals, especially lizards and goanna. Wild flowers and porcupine grass. Be respectful in this delicate wonderous ancient site.

There is a viewing tower at this park which is a nice addition, but regardless of whether it was there or not... this would be a lovely place to stop. The banks of the river are stunning. Climb the viewing tower and see the confluence of the Murray and Darling Rivers, which, combined, is the fourth largest river system in the world. When the Darling is in flow, a surprise awaits -as the two rivers are marked by a distinct colour difference viewable from the tower. The Darling is a clay based river, its milky appearance contrasts starkly to that of the mighty Murray. After climbing the tower for a view, you should head off on the walk that takes you through a reedy path and it's so surreal... you will reach a lookout point that looks out onto Lock 10. Surprisingly, while my father and I stood there taking it's serenity... other walkers joined us. I think this is a 'must see' if you are in Wentworth.

We walked across the bridge over the Darling River as we saw the Ruby an old paddle steamer which has been painstakingly restored by volunteers and we wanted to take a photo. There were some men working on her when I took some photos and we were lucky enough to be offered to be shown through her. They had photos of what she used to look like. The transformation was amazing. The love, time and energy that these guys have put in over the years to bring her back to her former glory is astounding. The park also has the famous Ferguson Tractor Memorial as it was this type of tractor which helped build the levee banks to protect the town in the huge 1956 floods. There is a nice kids playground and picnic tables as well as a large display of old farm machinery. The historic police residence is also located in Fotherby Park which is worth a look at.
